never doubt the strength of the CVT auto. i've burried my bike more often than not, and the low range will still keep the rubber turning. momma's bike is a full manual with the hand clutch.
yep... put it in gear and its just like a snowmobile from there. transmission works on the same principle. i think they all come with H-L-N-R sort of deal...
Some of the auto use a clutch like a sled, I think polaris does or at least they used too. The honda has a auto much like a car with a torque converter and a planetary gear set.
I actually did drive a bombardier quad that my one boss had before, but it was just a rip down the street. That was a few years ago, and I cant really remember what it was like except it did move pretty fast!
marlon, you'll have to come with us on a spring derby next year. there's usually a ton of mud, and i know i could count on you to join me in the holes...
there are very few quads with any other option... i think other than honda's car style tranny, there's only a small handful of utility quads with the manual option, and thats an electric/clutchless shift at that. those are often the bare bones, bottom of the line bikes as well.
if anything, you have more control over speed and power with the auto because you're not having to gear hunt... if you need a ton of grunt, there's low range.
i'd even have a hard time going back to a sport bike style for everyday riding. i rode the missus bike for about 10 minutes yesterday and just couldn't get the feel for it. for me, it'd be either a utility quad or dirtbike...
Well thats definatly nice to hear some real life experience with the different kinds of trannies.
Ive only ridden a quad a few times with the hand clutch, and i thought it was pretty fun! Mind you if I think about it, I would rather have a bike over that though.
you sick or what paul?? i'd gladly send every little messy skiff of snow we get, unless it looks like we're going to get enough to enjoy sledding for a change...
