There are no numbers or letters missing, because...

1953 thru 1980 Ford truck VIN's are 11 digits. 1981 and newer VIN's are 17 digits.

If it's an F250 2WD Regular Cab, the VIN begins with F25, not F15.

A = 460 4V

C = Ontario Canada Assembly Plant

AJ4191 = 1978

Did you get the above VIN from the registration or off the Warranty Plate, located on the left door below the latch?

Ppl swapped doors due to accidents, and forgot to change the Warranty Plate, so the VIN on the door won't match the VIN on the registration.

The VIN is from the Cabs sticker on the Door Jam. I was given a 1973 Title with the truck but it had a different VIN. I am begining to think it had a cab from a 78 F150 put on if this is possible, and noone changed the sticker.

I doubt someone went thru the trouble of swapping cabs.

IMO: Someone changed the left door, why the VIN on the registration doesn't match. The doors are the same 1973/79.

There are two ID plates, the metal Warranty Plate which is riveted to the door and the white Certifcation Label (sticker) which was glued on.

One cannot remove the sticker without tearing it into pieces.

The VIN is listed on both.

The VIN is stamped on the right frame rail, just in front of the cab. It's lightly stamped, so will be hard to read, especially now since road grime and rust are coating the frame.

Obviously something is wrong, as the VIN you posted is for an F150 (5 lug wheels), the truck is an F250 (8 lug wheels).

What engine is it? 302 = 6 valve cover bolts / 351M/400 = 8 valve cover bolts / 360/390 = 5 valve cver bolts / 460 = 7 valve cover bolts.

The 360/390 were used 1973/76, the 351M/400 were used 1977/79.

Sounds like the cab was swapped if the sticker is what you are getting the VIN from. Is there not a VIN on the door tag or is that the same too.

The chassis VIN would confirm the title's VIN.

Trucks can have some really odd VIN info hence the term FrankenTrucks. Chassis', cabs, and doors get swapped all the time and what a truck once was is now a "built truck". Technically, these trucks should get inspected and have a replacement VIN tag from the DMV, but that is such a hassle, that most people just get a title to what they have whether it's the chassis VIN title or the body VIN title.

My 75 Highboy was completely repainted and the door tag removed, well the paint guy lost the tag. I moved from one state to the next and the Gal at the DMV office goes out to look at the truck to match the VIN# from my previous title, I told her the door tag was missing but she was more than welcome to climb under the truck and check the number on the frame(right now I am laughing so hard deep down inside because she is all dressed up in fancy clothes) she looks at me with this dumb founded look and says "nah thats alright I'll believe you" and back in the office we go. It was one of the funniest things I ever saw gave me the title. One of these days I will get the replacement tag for it.
