Yep, typical Highboy. Your truck originally had a 300-6 or 360 for an engine (as NumberDummy said). The 44 front axle should have drum brakes and has the power assist setup or manual steering. What is the VIN of your Title? Should be F26 Y or G ........
This is the VIN from the title I was Given F26YEQ40919. I used brake clean on the right frame inside the engine compartment as you are sitting in the seat and with much wire wheeling can not find frame VIN . shoul I try the other side or a different part of the frame than the top?
No, you were looking in the right general area - but after all these years, they can be difficult to locate! Still haven't found mine, but I have not had the cab off or even the rad. support off. Some have found theirs on the top of the rail under the cab, but it was also supposed to be between the cab and radiator. Might have been eliminated somewhere along the way, too!

Drivers side = left / Passenger side = right.
F26 = F250 4WD / Y = 360 2V / E = Mahwah NJ Assembly Plant / Q40919 = 1973.
I wan't to mention that I think my frame VIN may be gone forever. There is a notch in the frame and a plate welded on behind the engine mount area. I think it was done to accomodate headers. It may not be the end of the world if I never knoe for sure.
It's under the cab on passenger side rail also, but unless you have your cab off, it's impossible to see. I could only make out a few letters and numbers on mine in both spots.
