Knocking

Sometimes at idle i can here a slight knocking from the engine that comes and goes. The truck runs strong and i get good Mpg and have no other symptoms.

Have you noticed if it does it more when your low on fuel?

no, i rarely let it go below 1/2. It has not mattered what the fuel level is.

How loud is it? Number 8 injector will clatter some.

It is not very loud as you can barely here it over the cackle of the motor and it comes and goes and at at hwy speed it is not there. There is no smoke unless i stomp on it.

I doubt you have anything to worry about. Keep oil level good and drive it. These diesel do make some noises.

I agree also with Barry, these engines do knock and clatter at times. Also change that fuel filter out on a regular basis and all will be fine.

Thats cool CPS, thats some great mileage for a 8800 pound truck, people always say to me "Man,your mileage must be really bad huh." I get a kick out of telling them i get about 20ish give or take and the look i get!

Great mileage and as far as the knocking you hear, just turn up the radio and little louder.

Mine knocks when at operating temperature only(idle). I have found that it is the #8 injector. I have had people ask me if i have a lifter on the fritz. Going to do the fuel tank & Hpx mod and possibly swap out the injector if the mods don't cure it. Drives me nuts. Now that i am back from vacation it is time to get to work.
