Maybe jack the truck up and use it as dead weight to press them together (with wood blocks on both ends). I tried using a big mallet and it did nothing, just kept bouncing back. Those O rings are big and stubborn.
A press is ideal because you can control it properly. Maybe a long adjustable wood clamp could work if its strong enough but I have my doubts.
