I have the latest flash and it solved the cruise problems I had, it will let you drop about a mile and a half before downshifting in cruise, before if you dropped a tenth it would downshift.
I just had the shutter when going from 5th to 4th to pass on the highway at about 68mph. towing a 10k trailer, first time I felt it with about 4k towing miles, 10k on truck.
It did go into regen with the cleaning exhaust filter message about a mile later. Towing I get the message every 150 miles. Lasts 10miles or so.
Add me to the list. This weekend (about 5k miles on the truck) whenever going up hill on the interstate if we got a downshift out of overdrive it would studder a few times. Maybe a torque convertor or tc lock up problem? This was with the auto tranny.
any of you notice if there was any white smoke along with the shutter? TSB 08-28-1 concerns the intercooler and white smoke while humidity is high or raining: although it doesnt mention hesitation or a "missing" type feeling from a gas engine, mine was doing this. I had the intercooler replaced today and all hesitation, stuttering is gone. Just a thought.
my 08 did this all the way home from SD and the dealer was able to recreate this and ford tech support couldn't figure why they even took the truck to the proving grounds and they ended up buying the truck back from me after a year of bullsh--.
white smoke is normal? never heard that one, as many years as ive been around these trucks when they produce white smoke it means one thing: something's wrong. check out TSB 08-25-1, dealing with white smoke from the 08's I originally posted the TSB as 08-28-1, which does not exist. typo
TSB 8-25-01 fixed it for me. You have to say "wet weather, white smoke" to get the attention of the service manager but I also had the condition in the dry under a real load. Only happened to me when towing in excess of 10K.
I do experience vibration accelerating from a stop with heavy trailer and it is obvious to me that it's the transmission/torque converter complaining a bit. It just reminds me how much torque there is when the motor gets wound up.
White smoke is a water based problem, correct? Check for water in fuel, loss of coolant, and the mentioned TSB about the CAC unit. Be VERY aware of coolant levels at all times. The low coolant warning message is non existent and your motor can easily get low, overheat, and blow the EGR cooler and kill the motor.
I have yet to see any white smoke from mine. To me this fell like a clutch slipping. It kind of pulsated if that makes sense almost like the torque convertor was locking and unlocking. I thought it might have been the vibration issue while loaded but I had the truck loaded down a lot more on a trip a couple of months ago and no issue.
White smoke in a diesel could be water but could also be really poor combustion. Essentially it is raw fuel not burning in the engine. You should be able to tell by the smell if it is antifreeze or diesel.
I have had it happen... pulling a 3k load. Its almost like a stutter. And at the same time of a regen, I had a long white tail of smoke... that only happened once though
Happened to me the first time this week, going up a hill with a load of cattle. good stream of white smoke for a few seconds. I have about 15k miles on the truck and tow often.
only time I ever had it happen was when I was in ohio in Dec. Was just starting a regen and it did that. Cleared up as I was traveling. No load and hwy speed at the time.
I have had the a couple of times from a dead stop/slow speed going up hills with a heavy load but that is about it.
Just got back from Woodstock NH with the TT, plenty of Mountains and not a shudder at all this time.
Hey lads
I seem to have the same kind of symtoms of yesterday towing my 5er, twice i would put the brakes on and i was in tow/haul mode. Low and behold going from 5th gear to 4th, it seem to hesitate then kind of slamming into 4th with a quite a jerky feel. I will tty that new TSB reflash and see if that will help out the situation. just thought i would had my 2 cents. plus i have one of the job 1 trucks.
Sorry, should have went in further detail. Mine has only done it for a few seconds when under load and the regen cycle just starts. This is supposed to be normal in my region due to dampness(seattle). It does not last for more than 10 or 15 seconds though.
Glad someone posted this issue. I just had a similar issue driving through Missouri last weekend. I had the cruise set at 75mph running about 2000 rpms with only some luggage in the bed. I needed to get around someone so I put the pedal down, and when the truck down shifted I felt like the truck was not getting fuel.
My truck is completely stock with the latest reflashes. Might Ford have implemented some type of strategy to help protect the tranny from over-revving at those speeds? Or was it the computer not letting me get on it too much because I would be getting close to the govened speed of 95? Just throwing some thoughts out there since this is my first diesel.
