My truck is completely stock with the latest reflashes. Might Ford have implemented some type of strategy to help protect the tranny from over-revving at those speeds? Or was it the computer not letting me get on it too much because I would be getting close to the govened speed of 95? Just throwing some thoughts out there since this is my first diesel.
this sounds exactly like the TSB for white smoke in damp weather. same issue for me even when it was just very humid and no rain. didn't even have much white smoke but the new cac fixed this problem for me.

I'd like to know if Spartan or Banks eliminates this issue! I am towing really heavy right now and the motor spools up to about 2700RPM's and then sputters. I guess it is "de-fueling". The engine load on my Insight is 100%, then the engine will downshift for a hill and the load freezes at 86% and then the shudder/stutter starts.

I thought the new CAC fixed this but no. Wet weather problems are gone but still not able to push the motor really hard in the dry.

Well I have the banks, towing on level two and no sputters. I did have a few mountains last week they were enough to cause a downshift to about the 2700 rpm range to maintain 70 mph.

but only moving a total weight of 16K (truck included). I think you are moving more wt then that.

Based on experience (I did not roll over any scales) I'd say that I was running between 23 and 25K yesterday and today. It's the kind of weight where the truck gets pushed around by the weight when you stop at a light. Getting to a complete stop the truck is still being rocked back and forth while I am not moving.

It's fun to do now and then but the 3.73 hurts me I think, everything on the truck really works hard to get things moving and stopping. I'll probably get a 350 SRW with a 4.10 next time unless the new 6 speed auto trans. is really good.

Back to the point of the thread: It really sucks that my engine hits its limit. The dash really shakes when I work uphill trying to maintain 65-70 mph. The transmission down shifts when slowing down a grade make the motor spin past 3000 rpms at times and I get a weird sound. It's like putting your hand on the end of a vacuum cleaner hose, doing it as rapidly as you can. Kind of a "tut-tut-tut" sound maybe at a speed of 10 times/second.

I really thought the new CAC as per TSB 08-25-01 fixed the issue and I do think it's better than it was. Just frustrated that it came back! I guess it's protecting itself from something.

Jerking when climing MonikaT1972

I had a severe shudder when starting under load on my 08 350. Very pronounced when going uphill. Took it to the dealer many times and was told it was the drive line angle. They could not fix the problem and I was questioning if they were actually working on the correct part of the truck. The Ford field tech. was used to try to help solve. They actually manufactured a new carriage bearing frame for my truck. This fixed the shudder when towing very nice now with my fifth wheel attached. However I now have a constant vibration when empty. Ford is still working on the problem. The next trip will be number 8 and more than 10 days in the shop since I bought in March 09. I filed with the BBAutoline and Ford said that they can fix it. We shall see. To all of you who had this problem with the shudder I believe they are making another carriage bearing frame that they hope will solve.

I have the same problem, usually in cruise at the same speed for 20 or so miles without a change, then hit a hill and drop in speed tranny goes to down shift and I get this shuttering, will do this pulling a 12k trailer, took it to the dealer and no codes were thrown so they put in a VDR (vehicle data recorder) and all they saw on that was the brake was being applied while it was accelerating HMMM, in cruise? Doesn't make sense to me, they are going to put new paramaters in the VDR and try again. Has anybody else had this done with thier truck? (VDR)

I had an 08 F250 CC 4x4SB that would shudder on take off only when heavily loaded. My current 08 F350 DRW CC SB does the exact same thing on take off, but not as badly.

Based on the driveline TSB that Ford has out on this, it is related to drivline angle, and if you fix it under a load, then it probably will shudder empty when you take off.

If you are not getting shudder on take off, but in 3rd gear after you are moving, then the torque convertor/tranny system is likely the issue.
