I had a slight pulsating in my rear brakes last week. Tore into it tonight and I had a seized caliper pin on each side. Soaked each pin with penetrating oil and applied some heat. I now have the ends of two caliper pins laying on my bench. They were seized tight enough that they twisted right off.
So, can I buy just the caliper bracket with new pins or am I stuck buying a couple sets of new calipers?? If I can get just the bracket, does anyone happen to know the part number?
Thanks,
JEV
No, The bracket that the pins are mounted in.
I called the local Ford dealer this morning....He has two new brackets on order and they should be in tomorrow...
JL probably has a thought on this as well, but what I picked up the other day when getting ready to do my rear brakes was a small bottle of purple High-Temperature anti-sieze lubricant... good to 2800°F according to the label, but not cheap... it was something like $19 at NAPA. The guy behind the counter said that it has been real popular with the local shop mechanics. I would also suggest getting new boots to go with the new pins.

I see you already ordered the parts, so here's the info for others.
...
btw: Those caliper pins are notorious for breaking off.
Not only are the caliper pins notorious for breaking off, the pin bolts that are being supplied today are not know for their strength either.
Just last night when I was reinstalling my driver side rear caliper pins, I mistakenly set my torque wrench to 52 lbs instead of 42 lbs. The first pin and bolt survived, but the second one snapped off.
When I discovered my mistake, I replaced both pins and bolts because I did not want to leave an overstressed (although unbroken) bolt in the other pin. That's when I found out you can get the rear pins/bolts for $5.50 per side at O'Reilly's, but those don't come with the boots.
Bill, I read a great deal of your posts, and was pointing out that you sure haven't given it up!
BTW, go ahead, tell us what you think about what passes for a Ford parts counterman today.
I think the head guy at Vista is pretty good, however.
Pop
The former P/M (parts manager) at Vista is now the P/M at Gaudin Ford in Vegas, known around here as FTE sponsor DirectFordParts.
When he was the P/M at Vista, I was the P/M at Lynch L/M in Santa Monica.
Sooner or later, usually sooner, someone will have a horror story about their experiences with a Ford dealers parts department, then I'll type the rant.
I had a WONDERFUL experience last night with one of my local dealer parts departments (Ernest McCarty Ford in Alabaster, AL).
I mentioned having been working on my rear brakes... last night, while trying to finish the passenger side, I discovered massive corrosion and a dry socket associated with one of the caliper pins, and this corrosion had resulted in a large buildup of scale inside the socket walls so that the new pin would not even go all the way into it. Rather than risk mis-drilling the scale out and damaging the socket, I chose to run over to McCarty Ford for the new caliper bracket.
Keep in mind it was 8:00 PM when i discovered this situation, but I knew that McCarty's Parts Counter is typically open until 9:00 PM. Well, they did not have the part in stock, but will have it by noon today for me from another local dealers inventory.
While talking to the guy behind the counter, he said that McCarty has been holding its Parts Department open 'til 9:00 PM for 10-12 years, and is committed to keeping it that way because it occasionally helps a customer who is in a real bind.
Prime example that there are a few dealers around who maintain an excellent Customer Service perspective!! BTW... this is the second time I've had this type of experience with this dealer... second time out of two attempts, batting 1.000!
