Well, I finally got around to doing my rear brakes and everything went fine. All the slipe pins are free and lubed. The front is where I have problems. I am having the rotors turned and replaceing the pads. One pin in each front caliper is siezed solid. I have PB Blastered it and used heat to no avail. I fear that I will snap the pin off in the "saddle" of the caliper that holds the pads.
If I cannot remove the pin can I just buy the portion of the caliper that holds the pads? If I can does anyone have any ford part numbers.
Does any one else have any tricks to getting the pins out?
I had two frozen on my truck less than 9 months old, thank you *#&*&$&$*# Ford dealership. They didn't lube the new ones after a wreck. One I was able to get out with some patience and alot of heat.....not so much temperature, but alot of fuel.
You can buy the new anchor plate....and pins. Oh this is reference for a 2008.
With a lot of heat and some big wrenches I got the pins out without damage. Cleaned them up and going to clean the bore with a scotchbrite pad and lube. That is what caused my warped rotor on the fronts.
The strange things is the rear calipers all had slide pins with the rubber slide on the end of the pin and there was no binding. On the fronts there was one pins on each side with the rubber end and they slid freely. The other pins on the front were just metal pins with no rubber and were bound stiff. Why not have all the pins with the boots?
you can buy new pins at auto store for about 10 bux for a caliper they come with boots pins and lube
i put a 4ft pipe wrench on mine and twisted it back and forth for 2 hours before one pin came out for me, then i washed the holes out with brake cleaner and a pipe cleaner, bought the new pins and lubed them and it worked great
DO NOT use neversieze as caliper pin lube, that stuff dries out and turns very sticky
Mercury 45, where can you get the boots, pin, and lube at a local parts store? I called autozone, advance, o reilly's and they all said no.
Had the go to the dealer for two pins and boots, $21.00. I didn't even need new pins just the boots. The parts guy said since FORD is not selling cars and trucks they raised there prices. I just did the rear brakes and had the rotors turned and had to buy one the the caliper mounting brackets, $38.00. There was one pin on each side that broke off. I was lucky and a was able to drill out the other one.
