Oh, what to do for a replacement?
Since there is little torque gain to be had with aftermarket exhausts, I plan to run the stock until it falls out. May be a while.... it still looks great at 140K miles.
Then I plan to go with a Flowmaster 50 followed up with a race style bullet conventional absorption muffler. The goal of the second muffler would be to squelch that annoying FM metallic rasp and drop the dB another couple points.

I'd forget about the bullet. Use a larger capacity muffler like the FM50 SUV or HD, you won't hear any metallic noise.
I was thinking of the FM50 Big Block. Supposedly one of the best flowing yet quiet. But still has that same characteristic metallic twangy sub tone all FM's have. A 3.5" core bullet won't affect flow at all, but I'm thinking the absorption qualities should soften the harsh edge of the tone.
It will be a cheap experiment as I do all my own pipe work and welding. And I have a long bed truck so lots of room to play.
If a person wants to deepen the sound of his V10. I have found in my ownership that increasing the size of the tailpipe will deepen the sound. My 3.5" tailpipe with a near stock muffler lowered my exhaust tone considerably.

An FM50 big block muffler is the quietest and largest capacity muffler flowmaster makes. The FM70BB2 is even louder. Look at the case dimensions of the different mufflers.
