I am on my 7 th. trans in the last 7 months. The trans are comming from Coleman Taylor. I just got back from Memphis where they rebuild them and they checked out my truck and said it had to be something electrical causing the trans to go out. Any suggestions!!!!!! I have put a new radiator and external transmission cooler. The two problems are overheating when pulling my 11,000# 5th wheel and when the truck gets warmed up it boggs down when you put it in reverse or 1. It is an automatic.
Bogging down in reverse or 1 can be caused by an electrical problem. If their is an open circuit to the pressure control solenoid the pump will be overloaded at idle. It's also possible that add on parts, like a Banks TransCommand, could cause this, too.
I installed an in line guage and an edge evalution to see the trans temp just three trans ago and the highest temp has been 247. I also sent the truck back for the recall on the cam position sensor about 5 trans ago and it seems when I have the trans problems this CPS code comes up.
The first trans was covered by an extended warranty and the others have been covered by the rebuilb company, so I am not out any money, but Ford says it cannot be electrical and the transmission shop says it is. This puts me stuck in the middle.
do you get complete exchange trannies every time or are they rebuilding the same case every time? if the trans got hot enough to tweak the case one time or another it could be that you need a new casea way to check electrical problem is to unplug the wire harness on the right side of the tranny by the exhaust pipe, if it still bogs down in reverse then it is definately not electrical. also with the wire unplugged you should have manual2 and overdrive without any kind of converter lockup in any gear. the truck should be driveable without a trailer with this unplugged also.

247F in the line to the cooler is not abnormal. It's easy to get the ATF in the cooler line in a good trans that hot. That's one reason why I like to have the sender in the test port. You don't see these temperatures that are completely normal, but freak out most people.

That's not true.
With the harness unplugged the EPC goes to max pressure. The pump can't keep up at idle speed and starves the converter for pressure. This will cause the torque converter clutch to drift on, partially applying the clutch and bogging the engine down.
If the harness is plugged in and there is an open circuit to the EPC you will get the same problem.
hmm my f250 would bog down in reverse for just a few seconds rite before the tranny went out then i had a loud pop one day that i thought was a broken shaft internally but when it was took apart like 2 or 3 snap rings of clutches in a snapring was off the big one that holds the clutches in it still had reverse tho.

Ok, so the test port is post-cooler? or does the atf loose that much heat in the lines?
