I get all my major welding done by a retired x-Dept of Highway maintenance worker.
With 40 years of experience and his talent I`d put Bill`s welding up against anyone`s, stamp or no stamp!
When i can I get all my welding done from my one friend back in nipawin. Hes been at er for a few years, doesnt even have his first year, and can weld better then just about anyone else around nipawin. Hes a genius with a welder. I would put his work up against a shop, or up against the DOT's too, but im sure they would still hand out a ticket.
Okay so the highways guy called back here is what he says.............
Nowhere does it say that a bolt on bumper hitch is NOT legal, so the above pictured hitch is okay to use with in it's limitations.
In regards to a "homemade" hitch, the problem with those are that they have no load ratings stamped into them. Now he did say that if the homemade hitch had good welds and was of appropriate guaged steel there probably would not be a problem with using one.
Everything is good until you hit 1400KG (3100lbs) then you have to have good hitches.
What i did find out......is that my car trailer is not legal to use since it has brakes on only one axle. Anything built after 1985 has to have brakes on 2 axles, mine is 1989
