PS Conversion questions

Trying to put in a PS box from a 74 in my 65. Something seems a miss. The donor's proportioning valve is supposed to bolt to the steering box (disc conversion done), but it will not fit. The steering box bolt pattern matches my manual box, but the PS box is hitting the motor mount. My guess is either the box or the valve were not original for the 74 donor. Whatever was changed on the donor was a real hack job, coat hangers and wire to secure the valve.

Number on the 74 PS box: C7AR-3A58T4 it is a ford box.

Does the motor mount have to be notched for the conversion? None of the threads I saw mentioned this.

Will the steering box interfere with headers? I don't have the headers yet.

BTW 352 is out and all front sheet metal is off, so much easier working on the PS/Disc/Drop conversions!

Early non PS driver side mount needs to be modified or replaced with the correct bent mount.

Prop valve can be mounted wherever convenient.

As Garbz mentioned, need the driver's side engine purch it's slightly offset to accomodate the power steering box. If the donor truck is still available, suggest taking it. There are couple different configurations for mounting the proportion valve to the steering box, the mount from donor should fit. I roamed the salvage yrd. until I found a set up for my 65, removed it from a 76 truck.

Donor (1974 with a 302) is still sitting outside the gargage, I'll check the mount when I go out this Sunday. I think I'll wait on the PS conversion until the engine is back in and the headers are fitted. Valve, pump, and box came off this donor, and the box has a bracket for the valve, but the valve won't fit, so one of the pieces is not correct.

If the donor has a 302 installed then not sure it will have the power steering purch you need. Have 2 65's and needed the p/s purch for the 65 w/ 390, and don't recall installing the purchase on the 65 with the 302. Make sure and compare. Perhaps more knowledgeable member can advise whether the sweep-back purch only applies to FE engines.

FWIW- when i did the conversion using a 76 donor i ended up removeing about 1/2 in sq. out of the corner of the motor mount to get the stearing box in. originally i had taken more than that out as i was eyeballing it but when was all said and done it ended up about 1/2 in. that needed to be removed.
