today i seen a green 78 stepside ford with a forsale sign in the back window.
had turbine type rims and no rust.
do any of you know this guy, or is he on the site? does anyone have some first-hand experience with this truck, and what is it like?
other than that... i called him and the truck has a 460 and an auto. he said the only problems with the truck was it needs a new tranny, and there is a crack in the rad.
now, i do have a couple spare 70's fords i could rape parts from, but the seller is asking $3500 for the truck.
do you think its reasonable? i am hopefully going to look at the truck tonight and can probably snap some photos if there is interest.
I ve never seen this truck that I can recall.
As to what it`s really worth all depends on the rust as $3,500 doesn`t get you much anymore. Any monkey can swap out motors, transmissions and mechanical stuff but quality body work, rust repair and paint job is major bucks.
Take and post some pictures if you can, that will help alot.
well.. went and looked at it.
its a 77 with a 78 grill
frame has also been shortened
i also must be color blind because i swear when i first seen it the trck was green... now it is magically blue.
one bad rust spot, few drips in the paint, nothing major.
Ok now that you say the frame has been shortened, that kinda changes things. Now im all for that sort of work, but I would probably get someone to check it out and make sure it was done properly. Also I would think that should drop the value abit.
well not done the way i would do it.
but its overlapped, welded(not the greats but looks strong) then has 4 bolts through it.
definately not a stock from factory flareside, which kind of saddens me.
Dont know it either man sure is nice though not bad worth 3500 well do you think it is do you want to pay that
i will tell you now these trucks dont hold the big value like muscle cars and classic cars and such they are becoming collectors item but if your paying a collectors item price it better be in perfect condition also it depends highly on what the person is willing to pay but everyone has there opinon
Maybe offer em between 2-3000 but that is up to you
I too don't really care for that box!! I would rather see just a short box from the late '70's. It does have a '77 grill in it though! That engine looks good and for all the parts that have gone into it I would saw $3000 would be as high as I would go!
If you say they chopped and overlapped the frame. If it gets pulled at a spot check, that frame is a no no according to our standards. This causes a rigid point in the frame of the trucks and causes the frame to crack around this area.
They are to be matted up butt to butt on the cuts. Then a second plate is put inside the frame welded over the frame welds. Overlapping mind you. Not the top orbottom of the frame lips. Just the side. This is also to be welded. It then still give the frame the flexabilty the truck frames need.
I too do not like the box on it. The fenders should of been from the 70's which they most likely could not find.
It sounds like they had their fun modifying the truck and now just want to get as much as they can.
I would offer them less. I too agree 3000 would be the max. The frame is the big problem.
The thing I don't like at all is the cracked rad.
Then I see he has the cheap mechanical guages from Princess, the problem with those is that if the water level drops (lets say from leaking from a rad crack) the guage sender looses contact with the water and reads a temperature lower then the actual temperature. And if your leaking water in a high-pro motor and guage isn't reading well it is extremely easy to overheat the motor very bad very quick.
The tranny needs replacing probably cause of overheating. and I'll bet you a nickel to a dime the motor felt the heat too.
For the asking price yes pass on it, but if this is the image of a truck you want, give a offer there is a good body there and many useable performance parts (even if engine was cooked with the tranny).
Unless your prepared to redo/replace the driveline best to wait for door #2.
