I've been considering buying these heads for my truck. I don't know much if anything about cylinder heads, so would these be a good set to go with? they have another set with a higher intake port and chamber volume, but would it be overkill? This is for my daily driver. And when they say, "Assembled", does that mean i can literally take off the old set and put the new ones on?
that's to pricey for a 170cc head.i'd look at the edelbrock performers or trickflow tw.is your truck a 302 or 351?i use to run afr 165's on the 302 in my 94 f150 but will be using edelbrock victor jr's on the 351w i'm currently building.also you will have to determine correct pushrod length with a checker and those probably require stud mounted rockers!
All the Dart heads use stud mount rockers so you'll need rockers, hardened pushrods and guide plates to put these on a 5.0. They also do not have provisions for EGR or air injection, so they are not emissions compliant. Not only that, but you'll probably need bigger injectors as well and that opens a whole other expensive can of worms on an EFI motor. The Pro1 heads are comparable with the AFR heads in terms of air flow, which is a big step above the Edelbrock Performers, these will turn a 5.0 into a real screamer.. as long as you have all the other parts to support them.
These sound like more trouble than their worth. What exactly has to be done to put these puppies on my rig? These AFR 165's have caught my interest as well. Or are they non emmissions compliant as well? Both have the performance gains i'm looking for, but i'm looking for relative ease when it comes to installing them. Are there any good cylinder heads similar to these that are made for an EFI 302?
the afr 165's are smog legal and can be bought with a pedastal rocker setup like stock.for the money and gains it's hard to beat the edelbrocks.also you'll be fine with 19lb injectors,my truck ran1/8 mile with stock injectors and never had one issue!i even have a vid of it on streetfire.net.give more details about your truck and maybe we can lend more specific advise!
For bolt-on convienence either the Edelbrock and AFR emissions legal heads would be the way to go. You can probably get away with the stock 19lb injectors, though using an adjustable FPR to bump fuel pressure will help reduce the amount the injectors spend at 100% duty cycle.
my truck's a 94 single cab 5.0 transmission's a three speed...not sure of the exact name of it. mods so far a just a k&n drop in and dumped ravin exhaust
