Finally takin the stroker on her first long flight. Northern VA to Myrtle Beach South Carolina and gotta couple questions. One: trucks gots 3.73's and i figure runnin at 70 (well what shows 70 with the 35's, 75mph maybe?) at 2k rpm's, is this going to be bad on the motor (i don't plan on stopping on the 7 hour trip). And Two: Anybody down in the area to talk diesel with?? I'll be leavin last saturday in July through first saturday in August. Thanks in advance
7 hours non stop at 2,000 rpm's? You must not be married or have any kids.
Your motor won't even bat an eye. Set the cruise and forget about it. Just remember if you decide to stop for a drink or something and jump off the highway at a gas station, let the truck (turbo) idle down a couple of minutes before you shut it off. The turbo gets spinning pretty fast and if you shut the truck off immediately after coming off the highway you'll stop the flow of oil to the bearings in there.
This is the kind of drive your motor was made for. Enjoy it.
It won't hurt your motor at all. Like Chris was saying let the turbo spin and cool down before shutting it off. I once made a trip from Baton Rouge, La. to South Carolina and back to Baton Rouge. Only stopping for fuel and eating. Had two drivers so truck never shutdown till we got back. Never hurt it. Went up empty truck came back pulling a 35ft
5er. It was old and heavy.
Haha yea i let the turbo spool down every time till it drops to 300 degrees on the post turbo pyro. I didn't think it'd be bad for the truck i just wanted to make sure. O not married and no kids either Chris haha (18 yrs old)
Huck: probably close to you, just came down I-81 to 25E North to Kentucky today

Yep, just take I26 to Johnson City. About 15 min. Do me a favor while your at Myrtle. Stop in at Margaritaville, tell Jimmy I sent ya .
Made plenty of long trips in my truck that were well over 1000 miles one way. You can drive all day long at 2K RPM's and the engine will be happy. Drive like you have an egg between your foot and pedal, and your fuel mileage will be nice too.
Ahh that's what's gonna kill me is fuel... i squeaked out a whoppin 16 mpg this last tank ( i cleaned the EBPS about midway thru the tank) soo i'm hopin for 17 maybe this tank.... i figured out though if you ride with your buddies as much as possible, you get awesome fuel mileage haha

Unfortunately, our trucks make their best fuel economy below 2k rpms which means below 70. Who can take that? If you can stand it, you will get good economy. It's all about the frontal area and wind resistance.
haha yea i know (well i guess i will figure it out)... we were down there last year and i was making fun of a dodge while we were walkin down the strip (needless to say my white shirt was a lil darker in color) but i figure if they don't like the smoke tune, the 152 db train horns will do it
Ive made those length's of trips more times then i care to remember. My trucks LOVES them!
The worst one I made was I was way up north working, started working at 6am, worked till about 3 in the afternoon, got done early, drove 5 hours to get to the shop, got in my own truck and drove 13 hours to get home The bed never felt so damn good lol.
stock truck and tires 3.73's. ran 70/75 mph got 21mpg on thruway. Dropped to 65 on cruise 1800rpm. Got 23.6. mid 23's mpg all the way home from florida. 20+hours. 5 to 10mph slower will save you a pocket of beer money. I heard some guys reaching 2600rpm constantly and pulling while traveling.
