Time for new batteries?

I left my parking lights on while I was at work the other night. Came out and the lights were still on, but the truck started. Well that must have been the last straw for these batts cause when I left for work today the truck turned over real slow but did start, however when I got ready to leave tonight No Start. Im gonna try and put them on the charger tommrow and see if that helps. I didnt drive the truck much this weekend and im thinking they just havent been give a chance to have a good charge put back in them. I can get a good deal on Optima Yellow tops, if this is the end for these batteries should I go back with the group 31's (what these are) or the Optima's.

Thumbs up

How old are your batteries? they only last about 3 maybe 4 years.
Get a batterytender plus and hook it up till you get a solid green lite and they should be fine if they aren't too old.
see link
Batterytender.com - Home of All Your Charging Needs Battery Tender PLUS! - 12V @ 1.25A

and they can be bought cheaper on ebay or other sources.
I found some for $43 and I own 6 of these and I love them, do some reading on their site and you will be impressed like i was.

I'd upgrade them to bigger batts and get rid of those stupid terminals. I know a couple folks on here are running ones that have threaded ones.

Go with the group 31's!

I paid about $75 a piece for mine. They were actually cheaper than the correct OEM replacements. They are rated at 1125 CCA each and have the stud terminal so no more lead terminals and clamps.

But from the sounds of it I would make sure its not your starter or a cable issue. its quite unusual for batteries to die like that.

They are more powerful, better terminal design, and built for industrial use. The only down side is the size, They just fit the tray and need a different type of hold down. Also they usually only carry a 1 year warranty which is very common for industrial/Heavy duty parts to have less warranty than passenger vehicle parts. But they will still last as long or longer than standard OEM replacements.

nice! and that's a good price.
Maybe it's just california, but i payed $95 for my last battery, and it was only a 750cca for a honda passport.
my dad's chebby needed 900cca, and that battery was $120 after tax... ouch. could almost buy two of those group 31's for that.

Well I had'em tested and one was bad. I went back with Napa Group 31's, they have the standard top post instead of the stud terminals, they didnt have the stud type and I needed batteries today. 95$ 18 month repacement warranty then 3 year pro-rate. The guy at Napa says these are what he sells to the County for all of the Buses and Garbage trucks and such.

FWIW I had Caterpillar Group 31's (standard top post) in the truck.

Well my price was also wholesale so that will make a difference some. But none the less they were cheaper than the "correct" batteries

Sounds like a good deal. Yes the 31's are available with regular posts. I just get sick of them so I cut them all off and put the eyelets on the cables. I forgot you can get them with the lead posts.

Just had to replace my two last weekend. I went with the Optima Red Tops man it turns over quick now. I like the Optimas because they're sealed no leaky. Good luck.
