Why are you shimming them? Not enough spring pressure on seat?
Or did the seats get cut and the stem sits up too far now?
If they are D2TE heads (with induction-hardened exhaust seats), and the exhaust seats were cut enough to need .060" worth of shims, the hardening is probably gone.
Just warning you
Other than that, I'd get brand-new springs if they are just too weak.
don't think it would be an issue, however asking the machinist would be my first option. Coil bind is the only thing I can think of that would concern me.
they'er new edelbrock springs, and the exaust does have the **** ground out of em', but there not hardened. even with the correctly ground seats it takes .03 to get seat pressure around 85lbs-95lbs.
the exhaust valve sits about flush with the top of the cyl. head. its not a matter of putting new seats in, thats not going to happen, i dont have the money, time, and the local engine machine shop is closed.
they must not be ground too much being that a .060 spacer will bring the seat pres. back to spec.
Don't alloy heads normally/often/sometimes have a base 'washer/insert' in to stop valve springs eating into the soft ally? Do you have that in place already?
Whoops, wrong, I thought they were Edelbrock heads, I'll read better next time.
