Did mine this weekend and it took about an hour with a piece of pipe and got it all out. Not much sound difference but hoping for lower EGT and another MPG or so.

you might get lower EGT's but i doubt you are going to get a noticeable MPG difference. i got the MBRP cat delete pipe and i didn't even see a difference in my MPG's. with the kitty gone the biggest thing i noticed was the whistle was louder. thats it, but i don't have a pyro gauge yet so i don't know about the EGT's. i'm sure they went down as well.

Did it affect your spool-up time at all?

nothing that was really noticeable. it is just a tad slower when you hammer down from a dead stop but the secret is to just roll on the throttle and the lag time decreases considerably!

I used a 3/4 inch bar, about 5' long, and a 3lb sledge. It took a litle work, but it is now hollow and all that stuff is gone.

a six pack and bar works well.. I just left my kitty on the shelf in the shop, better whistle and if you remove it on a stock truck it will smoke a bit on acceleration.. Hard to tell if I actually dropped and EGTs or not since you would need to record a few exact same trips..

Hows the kitty going to get gutted if you're at a bar with a six pack?

Most report -200 degrees on EGT's and better turbo whine but nothing more. If anything, higher exhaust pressure would decrease spool time. Removing or gutting the CAT decreases exhaust pressure... Applying that logic, and if it indeed had any effect, it would likely be undesirable.

It reduces pressure after the turbo, which increases the pressure drop through the turbo, which mean more energy transferred to the turbo. It probably would decrease spool time, but maybe not noticeably.

I'm with cartmanea... seems to me that decreasing the post-turbo exhaust pressures would increase the pressure differential across the turbo. It would still take the same upstream pressure to turn the turbine blades, so upstream pressures wouldn't be changed by gutting the turbo.

No first hand experience with this. That's just how I envision it.
