Fuel filter replacement gone bad

I just did a bozo no-no. I was replacing the fuel filter tonight, as i have done often. This time I noticed a lot of debris in the can after I drained the fuel. I took a q-tip to the fuel port on the driver's side then I tried to clean the gunk on the bottom of the can. In the process of doing this I managed to break off a small round metal something (no idea) that is attached to a horseshoe shaped wire that has 2 other round metal pieces (magnets?) that are attached to an electrode or something underneath that plate. Can anyone advise me what this is and how I can replace it? Is this a big deal or not? I haven't tried starting it yet because I am also cleaning the K&N and it won't be dry until tomorrow. Any ideas?

Thanks

from the sounds of it you broke your fuel bowl heater you do not have to replace it if you dont want to just unplug it from the fuel bowl and you are done

That would be your fuel filter heater and they do break. For now I would just unplug it or you might start blowing a fuse. Believe it is the middle connection on the drivers side of the canister. They are replaceable however I've not done it yet. Do a search on it .. there is lots of information.

Okay, I've searched around a little bit, this sounds pretty common. I have unhooked the middle connection for now and I'll look at replacing it later. If I could get the thing out I may be able to solder it myself. Thanks for the help!

The fuel heater comes out very easy. You can re-solder it or just forget about it.
Mines been unplugged for years. Don't need it here, even in MI where it
gets pretty cold.

Just remove the stand pipe
