I have the m50d manual transmission in my truck and its time to change the fluid. I know ford recommends ATF (which is in the truck now), but ive heard using oil works better in these transmissions. Mine shifts relatively well but can be a little noisy sometimes. I have a friend who has had 10w30 in his m5od for about 5000 miles and he says it shifts smoother and is quieter. Has anyone had good experiences with oil in the m5od?
thanks
When we had a bronco with a manual I ran auto tranny fluid and gear lube, a half and half mixture of the two.
One is to thin by itself, and the other one is to thick by itself. The dealer suggested that mix when I brought them the tranny and had em put new input shaft bearings in it.
Made the tranny easy to shift when cold but yet thick enough once heated to take the pressure, never had any more tranny problems after that. It had 80k on it when we bought it and had 320k on it when I sold it, input shaft bearings where replaced at about 140K.
