After the mods I did last week, I decided it was a good idea to get the SCT. The EGR mods in the 05 set codes and the CEL light. I set out to get the tuner. I called and emailed the big well knowns. One never returned the email nor a phone call. The other did called once left a msg, no email. While waiting for a response, I found the recommendation to call Mike at 5 Startuning. He responded the next am. After about 5 or 6 emails over 2 days. I bought the SCT from him. It arrived in 2 days on FRI. I found the truck codes and emailed back to Mike that day. On Sat I had 3 tunes. I wanted a soft street econ tune and a light tow and a strong tow. I got a 80hp street, 50hp tow and 60hp tow. I loaded the street tune and made a short test run. Very responsive. I took a drive down the mtn and though town and back up a 6 to 8 % grade with many turns. The run back up was great. I could do the pull in 3rd most of the time keeping RPM from 1800 to 2800. It pulled strong all the way. Post EGT was 450 to 500. Stock would run 600 plus.
Tomarrow we go out with the horses to camp. I loaded the 50hp tow tune to try it. I am taking the SCT with me if I need to try the 60hp strong tune.
So far I am pleased with the SCT. MOST of all I am very very pleased with the great service and time Mike provided. He took the time to educate me and help me to decide in what I wanted. It was a pleasure to deal with him. I highly recommend his service. The price was great also.

hey psdendurance i just got my SCT love it also got studs and egr delete kit form liberator. One ? for you. how much boost are you seeing on daily driving and really romping on it?? whats max boost? does it hold it?? i am asking b/c i am having trouble with mine and trying to see if it is b/c of the egr delete. Thank you
I try not to max it out. I did have it to about 25? on the stock dash gauge. It held OK. BUT i have stock bolts and gaskets. I hope I dont have to deal with fixing that for a long time. That is the reason I have mild low boost tunes. I am still within the 5 yr period and hope IF something big gives out I can get it fixed by Ford.
If I put the stock tune back - the CEL comes on due to no EGR operation. That my tick them off?
I guess you took the EGR cooler out. I just welded the up-pipe and has Mike program the EGRv to off.
luckily my ford dealership did it. the prob i am having is i am really not boosting over 15 psi have seen 22 max but not holding. I checked all boots and seem to look fine i dont know what else it could be thank you
I read that a leak on the intercooler -metal to plastic seal will cause this. The crimps will bend out a little and leak boost.
Just a guess.
Guess my Ford dealer would change out my head bolts under warranty if they are still working. Not to sure they would do much since I did a few mods.
zss, disconnecting the EGR can cause the turbo veins to go to a failsafe position which may increase low rpm boost but limit high rpm boost. I just found this out so I will be plugging mine back in and will later just do a block off plate.
After I did the block off, I connected the EGRv. It ran bad. It did not idle smooth nor when I sped up. I posted about why before.. "I THINK" it is because when the valve is connected, at idle and under various throttle positions and engine operations, the valve opens and closes at variable rates, the INLET air flow will
port into the EGR cooler chamber since there is no exhaust gases there to PUSH into the inlet manifold. I think the PCM looks for a positive flow from the exhaust. I suspect the EGRv is cycled open/close due to this, which may cause inlet air flow issues. When I disconnected the valve it ran smooth.
HOW does one know the turbo vanes are not working? Will it set a code. I did not notice a problem with performance nor turbo pressure with the plug disconnected.
Since then,
I am running a SCT x3 with the ERGv de-programmed. A question I asked my tuner, Does the variable turbo vanes work or are they locked in a default. I can get boost pulling hard with a big load at 22 to 25 psi running about 2200-2400 RPM, pulling strong.
