i know its silly but still, im all worked up. coming home from the movies last night with the wife and had to drive by the local tuner guys hang out, well, one of the honda civics pulled out after me and chased me down to a red light. hes revving up his motor and im laughing at him (its a freekin honda!) so we roll about 1/2 mile just toying around, he obviously has a turbo and other mods you can tell by the sound, so at the next light the passenger looks over and tells the driver (reading my badges) that its a diesel V-8 and wont be a problem. i laugh, (keeping it in econo 80) we spool up and go, i sit right next to him looking at the passenger, then i just floor it, black smoke everywhere and im gone, SEE YA. damn that was fun. guy wouldnt even look at me at the next light. his windows were all rolled up even. damn that was fun, im going to find more soon. i think i need even more mods now!!
Is that what street racers are called today, tuners? Jeez how the times change. When I lived for street racing I would hang out at a hot dog stand on Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda, NY almost every night of the week trying to suck in fools. I used to make so much money with my sleeper Pontiac I probably could have quit my day job...........LOL...
I got one yesterday too. Lifted Chevy Silverado gasser with ugly bling bling rims and bicycle tires. Sent the kid home to daddy with his tail between his legs.

Me too. We hung at Dairy Queen on Springs Rd in Vallejo, CA. I had a 1965 Ford Mustang with a 302 V8 that my Dad built up for me. I've kicked myself ever since I sold that car and am now actively seeking an old Mustang to blow out like that one.

With me it was the A&W Rootbeer Stabd in Taunton MA. I miss my 66 Nova and the 77 Trans Am. Like Mark, I won more than I made at work.
Another good one that I had was a 1968 Cougar GT with a 390 and a 4 speed. Holy cow that car was fast. Would sit and just boil the freaking tires and fill an intersection with white, rubber smoke.
Congrats messeswithtrux. That's always a good feeling. Now you just need to add your name in your sig so we know what to call you.
As for the rest of you, I guess I led a deprived childhood. I've always driven pick ups so I was never the fastest. I did used to help my friend work on his 68 Camaro with a 396 in it. We would go drive int Gun Barrel City and hang out atthe closest Dairy Queen. Of course being in a small town it didn't take long to figure out who had the fastest car. Oddly enough, it didn't take the cops long to figure out who had the fastest car either.
Don't you miss the good old days when you didn't know or care what your gas mileage was?
Sounds like y'all were brats. I grew up in the mountains, drove a '53 Chev Custom (4dr sedan). I-6 - 4-spd(from a pickup) - 16" tires/rear end (Ford pickup). We "tore up" forestry roads, and raced the canyon ever so often. Straight-lining was not considered, we had too much fun in the twisties. "Power slides" then ane called "drifting" now. EXAMPLE: take a 15 MPH switchback at 35MPH. If you miss - it's a 75' drop into the river.
Yeap, ya pull into a station, tell 'em to fill it up with the 105 octane stuff, they washed your windshield, checked your oil, you paid with a 5 dollar bill and got change back. Damn!!

I remember the gas wars, .24 cents a gallon. When I was young, 5.00 would get me a tank of gas, a 6 pack of beer, and go to the dirve-in. Remember what went on at the drive-in? My windows were so foggy. WHY?

Yup those were they days! The drive in were great. There are two of them about an hour or so away.
Boy reading this thread brings back memories...my car in high school was a 340 Demon, 4 on the floor and a bench seat. I remember driving it down to Spokanes World Fair. IIRC 1975? Fun times back then!!!!
