Yup those were they days! The drive in were great. There are two of them about an hour or so away.
We don't have any more around here. There was one in a town about 12 miles away that had only xxx movies. Thats where I first seen DEEP THROAT, and DEVIL IN MRS. JONES. Hey, I was forced by my GF at the time.

I love to here stories like this, nice job dude. When i was 18 i bought my first car a 70 Nova off a guy that built motors for Roger Penske back in the racing heyday. This thing had a 350 LT1 and a 4.88 rear(put the stock 3.36 in later).75 cam, 750 holly double pumper, 400 turbo trans, beautiful. Me and a guy around the corner that had a 68 AMC Javlin with a 390 in it i believe. Man, did we have a great time racing.

I just don't understand the craze of the so called import tuners/rice burners/fart canners/boy racers! I mean, these cars are not muscle cars or big block trucks, but like Honda Accords and Toyota Camry's. I know there are some cooler cars like RX-7s but seriously??? Give me an old Mustang, Challenger, W-30, or something! I keep reminding myself that difference makes the world interesting...but man!
I love the clothing style that all these boy racers often seem to sport too, all THUG style with a hat brim twisted half sideways on the head and decked out in a track suit! Like WTF??? Must be part of the tuner culture?

Mike, I had a 70' Cuda, 70' camaro split bumper, 400 small block, 4 speed. 73 Malibu. 79' Trans Am w/403 ci. 81' Z-28, crap car. 74' cuda 360 HP, I think that was the last one built. I mean the very last one. 96' Mustang, I think that this is the top I have had. Not counting the trucks I have had.

You are one of the smart ones. Don't be like us, wish I would still had that car. I don't remember the AMX having the 360ci, I thought it was 390ci?

I may be wrong, let me know.

While this may be true, it says a lot about who is on here. Myself, 1970 Challenger 440 SixPak. I owned this town back in the 80s.

Back to the OP. The ricers drive what they do because it is what they can afford to drive and mod with the way things are. I wouldn't want to be growing up these days. These kids have no idea how things were.

Having said that, some of those things are pretty darned quick. Unfortunately they make a baaahh baaaahhh sound that sucks and is copied by even Neons that are just so sad they do not merit a comment. That is the annoying thing. $800 car with a $200 muffler system and a $10,000 stereo system and lights along with wings and ground effects that do nothing but fall behind my truck when I mash the pedal.

Oh, I almost forgot my favorite part, that is when they knock the air dam off the front pulling into the drive thru of anything from the main road.

Mike, your old ride sounds a lot like the sweet ride in the movie Vanishing Point! Nice car buddy. You are right. I think the kids nowadays running the tuners are missing father figures who should have been teaching the ways of real horse power cars.
Yeah, the Neon with the 3 foot wing on the back...."Captain, we are cleared for take off." A wing is supposed to keep the rear squatted in Formula 1, and you drive a front wheel drive car??? OOOOKKKkkaaay?

I'm still a young feller myself(27) and these kids really make me laugh with there little pissed off bumble bee cars! When I was younger I always had trucks, but my buddy hada a mustang that I think I drove more than he did. He always wanted to borrow my truck to go play in the mud and I didnt mind running the crap outa his car either.
