Those neons with the wings on them look like little shopping carts don't they?
Its funny. . . alot of those cars will kill me off the line. . . being an 8000 lb truck with 37" tires, stock gears and a stick. . . but I had a similar story with their little hangouts. Down in Batavia Il, at a local wendy's I think off of Randall Road, there would be probably twenty of these little cars sitting in the parkinglot with their hoods up. . . all sitting around talking. Well just after i got my injectors. . . I rolled through there real slow and just hammered down. . . I filled that parkinglot up with so much smoke you literally couldn't see the cars anymore. This was my first set of injectors with .012 holes in them. . . real smokey. They were cussing me out all the way out of there. next week. . . same thing. week after. . . they must have heard me coming around the corner and they all took off running and cussing me out before I even hammered down Oh I love being a jerk sometimes

I used to have a 66 Mustang with a 289, 4-barrel, 4-speed Top Loader, and factory duals. No way was it the fastest but MAN what a cool car!!! My buddy's dad worked at a Ford dealership and got hold of one of those Ford Experimentals.... a 68 coupe with a 428CJ under the hood... special project job.... it just chewed up the 5.0 LX Mustangs of the late 80's with no problem.
I'm old enough to love those cars, but young enough (or geeky enough) to be able to get in to the new stuff. For example...
Years ago one of the big car magazines decided to compare an SLP-tuned Firebird against one of Japans best: the WRX Spec IV (IIRC). That Firebird was quick...mid 13's off the showroom floor all day long.... but that WRX just KILLED IT. 12.14 in the 1/4, time and again. And do you know what makes that even more impressive? The WRX was a RHD stick, so the guy driving it had to shift LEFT-HANDED.
Still, the old musclecars have personality... style.... and there's just something about them that signifies a magical time we'd all like to have again.
AMX(not amc my brain fart thinking of Harley,s blunder) i do believe had the 360 and the 390 motors available in the 4 or 5 years they ran production.
The AMC AMX was a 2 seat model from 1968 to 1970 with a total production of 19134 cars. The engines were 1968 to 1969 290, 343 ,390 , in 1970 the 360 ,390 . In 1971 the AMX was a package offered on first the Javelin then in later years on the Hornet,Concord and finally the Spirit.

Thanks Dave, nice info, thats cool to know. Fast cars for sure.
I just don't understand the craze of the so called import tuners/rice burners/fart canners/boy racers! I mean, these cars are not muscle cars or big block trucks, but like Honda Accords and Toyota Camry's. I know there are some cooler cars like RX-7s............WTF??? Must be part of the tuner culture?
You would be suprised at the power some of these imports make! Most of them are azzhats, but there are some muscle car killers. P.S. I had an RX-7, wished I never got rid of her!.............
Thats it Jorge, fast suckers. A guy down the road has the one with all the stickers and yellow graphics on it. You can hear the turbo spool up real good.
Having said that, some of those things are pretty darned quick. Unfortunately they make a baaahh baaaahhh sound that sucks and is copied by even Neons that are just so sad they do not merit a comment.
I got a Neon stuck in my grill the other day. Had to atach a winch to that big wing on the back to get it out. I still have one of the wheels at home, I'm thinking of using it as a paper weight.
Great job smearing that sushi burner!

Should have taken a picture of that. I would like to see that.

Throw enough money at something and it will go fast. I can respect even a well built custom import. As with any custom ride it is an expression and form of art. I know your statement here though, and I also agree about the RX-7, it was on my wish list back in the day too.
My main point is the boy racers/amateurs. We all seem to run into from time to time. They throw on an intake spacer and a coffee can at the rear, then paint Le mans stripes, apply a K&N sticker on their Camry and think they have a fast car worthy of being in the next Fast and the Furious movie. Most of these guys probably have never been in a 10 second car let alone a 12 second car, and don't even know what fast is, but feel that the the NOS kit they are saving their allowance for will solve all their problems and might get em laid.

You know, in all my years of drag racing and stnreet racing (probably 2/3rd's of my life) I never even once considered NOS, to me it just seemed like cheating and using someone's else's idea, instead of your own brains and engine building talents to go fast. I will never respect anyone that resorts to NOS, blowers, yeah, I love em. But for my sleeper looking car on the street that made me so much money a blower would not have been a good idea.
Sounds like you know how to bore and stroke em Mark? I think a blower is so damn cool. I always wanted an intercooled procharger for my 88 5.0 Mustang, which I never realized since I gave the car to my dad.
