I'm trying to figure out exactly what kind of engine is in the '81 F150 I have. I 'm not the original owner, and I don't think it's stock. It's a V8, and I have some info that might help:
Number on top of engine: E6TE-9425-EA
Number on carb: 1DM2J
Firing order: 13726548
Oilpan: has 22 bolts, and 2 drain plugs (2 low spots, like an upside-down "U")
Trans: it's attached to a C-6 transmission (which is stock)
Oilpan: has 22 bolts, and 2 drain plugs (2 low spots, like an upside-down "U")
Definitely not the original engine. The double sump pan with 2 drain plugs is from a late model car. If it has 6 bolts holding the valve cover on, then it's going to be a 255, 302, or 351w. Let's hope it's a 302 or 351w, since a 255 is not worth the effort to swap in. Here's how to tell the difference between a 302 and a 351w.
P.S. "E6" is an 86. That is just the casting number though, so it is not definite what year the engine is.
thanks for the info. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to find out what's going on in there though, and I can't tell if there is a space or not. Is there any other way at all to tell what the engine is?
I got the number off the exhaust manifold, if that helps: E0TE-9431-CA
