I just want to improve EGT without adding noise to the drive. I know a 4" exhaust with tiny muffler will not fly at my house.
Let me rephrase the question this way:
Will my wife detect the difference (stock vs. BTM) from inside the truck with the windows up? I do not care much how it sounds outside. I have stock air box and no catalytic converter. Catalytic converters tend to act like a resonator and make the exhaust quieter.
There might be a very slight increase in the noise level. I noticied it just because I drive it every day. Can't even notice the increase now. My wife rode in the truck the other day right after I had the muffler installed and not a word about any increase in the noise level.
I had a walker btm, you get a heck of a lot better flow through that stock system. I believe the installation knocked like 200 degrees off egt's. This was before i put the DP in...After the DP if i drove it hard it would climb really high and stay around 800-900 degrees on the egts when cruising the highway at about 75-80 mph. The Walker BTM does what it has too, but eventually you get tired of the stock system and rip it out anyway. I had mine for like 7 months then ripped it out and installed the 5". im not sure how high your egt's will climb while towing a trailer. does the programmer read out egt's or do you have gauges? I don't have anything to haul yet, so mine really is a big toy...so i don't have information on how high of egt's you'll see while towing.
How would you describe the sound differences between stock, Walker BTM, and then to a 5"?
I'm trying to find the big truck sound (e.g. logging truck). Something a bit louder, deeper, aggressive. But don't want it to sound like a roaring Harley.
