Hey guys... I have a 97 F-150 and was wondering if anyone makes a head unit thats fits the huge opening created for the factory unit. I'm trying to avoid the big black space created if I use a install kit on a normal size head unit. Thanks for your help!!
yeah a single den offers more features, usually. You can do some stellar custom job. just an idea that i have seen and it is pretty sweet is: smoked plexiglass peice with a neon light or something behind it with a stencil of the decks logo. like the ///ALPINE. Hopefully you can visualise that. my description isnt the best. have fun and BE CREATIVE
Most stereo shops can give you filler pieces, whether it is a black piece that mounts flush underneath the head unit, or you can even get a little compartment for under there. I have on 01 Xped and i know, the stock radio was huge. Im running a Sony Xplod Head Unit, and its a little less than half the size of the opening. I put a compartment under it, and it fit in there pretty snug. If i get a chance, Ill take a picture of the setup and post it here for ya!!
I run the Alpine double-din. I had to file the hole a small amount, but the radio fits good and you can use the runner brace in the dash with the plastic clip off the back of the factory radio to hold it in. It is a lot stronger than the kits they sell. It has a 3-disc changer, cassette behind a fold-down face, DSP, equalizer, seperate sub controls, etc, etc. Only problem is the price - retail is around $900.00 to $1000.00. Mine is 2 years old, and I haven't looked at the newer models. Pioneer used to make a double-din also, don't know if they sill do or not...
