Hi All,
I'm looking to streamline the rear end of my 54 Panel Truck and my first move is gonna be shaving those huge rear door hinges. Anybody got any ideas how to make this idea fly? A kit, personal experience, divine intervention, witchcraft, HELP!
On the old MSN panel truck site there was a subject about doing this by using Pinto hinges? I think they were talking about a top hinged one piece door but something like that might work for two side opening doors. It's a suggestion, maybe it'll give you an idea of what part out of a junk you can use.
I give up trying to post the picture but if you go to my gallery intitled 1950 F-1, the last picture shows hidden hinges on a 56 panel but I have no idea what the hinges are from.
Those look a lot like the front door hinges. I don't really like how close together they are tho, leaves the upper 1/2 the door unsupported and leveraged against the hinges.
Edit: sorry Bob, we both posted at about the same time.

If you do remove your hinges, I would be enterested in them. I've been looking for a good set for my 55.

will probably be early in the new year,I'll let you know when they're off.
Thanks everyone,I've got a direction to go in now.The best anyone on this side of the water could come up with was weld the doors together and hinge from the top.Think I'd rather have pineapples forced up my butt.

I wonder if you could adapt some hinges from a late model truck, maybe the big Ford Expeditions or the Chevy Suburbans. You might also look at some of the late model vans.
I know that both Ford and GM had an option for both a swing up doors and side opening doors on the rear of vans and SUV's
Yah know, Bobby may have hit on an interesting idea to use the hinges off a van sliding side door! That would be pretty trick, to have the doors pop out and slide sideways, especially if you adapted the remote controlled units like Chrysler uses.
