I just don't see why people spend that much money on older trucks bigger then a a 1ton.... Sure it's neat though, but really what are you going to do with a Cummings powered fire truck?

Still a cool truck but I'm just saying for the amount of miles that thing is gonna put on I don't see why a gasser wouldn't fit the bill.

Maybe he has plans for it that involve putting on some miles.
I`d hate to try that with an old gasser at what, maybe 4-6 miles to a gallon?

Its kinda neat if ya ask me. I dont know about the whole point of why he is making the truck either, but its kinda cool. It would definatly make the truck able to be actually used.

Do you think the original 272 would only get 4-6 mpg Morris? I really have no idea what it would do for mpg or power. The cummins powerplant would sure be a nice power improvement though.

I`m not sure what I used to get with my grain truck but that wouldn`t surprise me. The more modern diesel cummins should be alot better in terms of power and fuel mileage.

I really dont have much knowledge of the 272 but it seems like it would be awfully small in a big truck like that.

Being so small the 272 really had to work it`s buns off and be geared low enough to
haul the big loads.

These were very short trips to the elevators, we were lucky and it was 5 miles at the most! Our one farm was only a quarter mile away!

Thats pretty lucky. For us the closest was 9 miles. I guess the farthest we hauled too was maybe only 12, but those trips add up.

Not so lucky any more, that elevator is long gone now! Now the land is rented out and the renter has a semi to haul grain.

Must be nice, we have a couple of older grain trucks. Im wanting to get a semi for hauling grain but the old man dont wanna spend cash on that yet.
