My father had a 272 Y block Y8 in his '58 Ford Station Wagon, standard three on the tree. It didn't have a lot of power......in an F600 , it would be a slug.
I see the point, in why go to all that effort to put a Cummins in an old truck, that chances are won't be putting in a lot of miles, because of it's age.
But, it would be an interesting vehicle, I guess that would be the prime reason. It would be a lot cheaper and easier to put a rebuilt 292 or 312, maybe even an old Lincoln 368, if you could find one...same engine family as the 272.
Could you imagine putting in a chevy 350 with a 400 crank, with towing/RV cam...what a 383 torquemeister, eh?
Just trying to get a rise out of you true blue oval fans...

I had a 59 Ford tudor/292/3 on thre tree and this one was no slug.
The rise did work, cough, cough, hmmmm.....
At least FORD OWNS Cummins, all of the issues with International over the 7.3, 6.9, and the 6.0 (I think it was) made a hassle out of things. NAVISTAR is International in stealth mode - a 6.9 is an International 442E down-tuned because they were selling it to blue oval.
Best way to hi-performance them is retro International parts including the crank and injectors.
I am just going by what I have read posted here and on some other diesel forums ---> whenever that comes up it gets commented on saying Ford was once a minoriy shareholder but does not still have that position.
