I have a couple of six cylinder engines. They are out of two different econolines. They have two different engine numbers. One of them is out of a falcon van I think 63 or 64.The engine number is (C1DE-6015-A).What engine is that? The other one is out of a 63 econoline truck engine number(C3DE-6015-E).What engine is that one? They both have the same number of freeze plugs.3.Any help will be appreciated.
Those are Ford casting numbers as 6015 is the basic part number, The first group starts as C-6th decade, any single#-year, subsequent 2 letters-plant codes(a little unsure on last) any suggestions? The last group is revision letters "A" the first and so on.
Possible small aluminum tag attacted to coil bracket may still exist if does it will state size of engine or has in any I have found so far.

Welcome to FTE
6015 is not a part number.
It's only the casting number for a bare engine block...which is Ford part number 6010.
Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to part numbers.
You cannot go by casting numbers on engines to determine the size 98% of the time.
Just because the casting number is newer, that doesn't necessarily mean the engine is a different size.
1961/64 144 & 170 engines (car & truck) use the same bare block. In 1963, Ford replaced the original bare block p/n of C0DE-6010-A with C3DZ-6010-C.
So...what size 6 cylinder engine is it? Measure the stroke / 144 is 2.50" / 170 is 2.94"
btw: The letter E in a casting number prefix does not refer to engines, it refers to engineering.
E was also used (as were A to Z and others in between) as the 4th digit of part number prefixes during the late 1950's, early 1960's.
I have either a 144 or 170 ford six cylinder. What is the hole in front of the distributor .Does it suppose to be a freeze plug in it?Also, there are 6 bolts that go into the head at a 45 degree angle. What are those.Thanks.

The threaded (oil gallery) hole just in front of the dizzy takes a pipe plug:
87837S - 1/4" -18 x 27/64"
I see no bolts that go into the head at a 45 degree angle.
I do see 6 holes at a 45 degree angle in the head (drivers side). These are for the spark plugs.
The three freeze plugs tell me the engines are 144 or 170 engines. The 200 had 5 feeeze plugs. Some of the early engines, 1960-1964, had a crankcase breather, or road draft tube, coming out of the block near the distributor. As I remember the hole was about 1" in diameter.
Hope this helps.
