....My F-150 (a 1997 California model) just came back from the shop, diagnosed with clogged catalytic converters. The truck has 4 of them and it's the upstream cats that have crumbled and clogged. The trucks got about 125,000 miles. The shocker was the repair estimate of $1,200.00 to replace the cats (useing factory replacements) and a couple hundred less if aftermarket ones are used. Being a notorious tightwad, the estimate kinda shocked me. I know that a California shop can't install a used set and that local wrecking yards won't sell used exhaust parts. So, I thought, what about craigslist.com? Could I score the section of the exhaust system I need from a private party parting out a wrecked truck, slap it in myself and then go get the truck smogged? How would anyone know?...
....So I took a look at the local craigslist.com and found a 1997 Ford Expedition that's being parted out. The Expedition is a 5.4 liter, while my truck is a 4.6. Will the exhaust fit? Should I get the section with just the cats, or snag the entire system? What do you think?.....
I assume your talking 1 inch wider between the two down tube. that is correct. I swapped my 5.4l it to my 4.6l and used the stock downtubes. i just had to split the y pipe and spread it out about an inch or so.
