I was surfing Craigs List Sacramento California and came upon a possible parts truck for you project guys. It's a wrecked '86 3/4 ton 4X4. Banks Turbo 6.9,
96,000 miles, original owner. States grandkids took out of gear and rolled down hill. oops. Excellent pictures!
Look under Craigslist.com. Go to Sacramento California. Then to auto-parts. I saw it listed today January 30.
Around here, you can find good mid 80's 3/4 ton 4wd diesels all day for $2-3K. Some with turbos, and possibly aftermarket OD's and other add on goodies. Yes, the parts on this particular truck are probably worth more than the truck is worth. If they were to part it out, they could probably make what they are asking, maybe more. But, not as likely as a complete truck. There was a '93 Crew Cab 4wd on a lot here for under $3K. XLT, aftermarket turbo and some other goodies. It sat for 3 months before it was wholesaled for a grand. The sum of the parts was worth at least what the asking price was.
Its much like if you were to be buying or selling a used pickup. If you just added a turbo, lift, tires, stereo, etc and then decided to sell the truck, you are not going to get the money out of it that you have put into it. Thats why you see hundreds of ads in the Truck Trader asking $10K over what the truck is worth and not selling.
Like someone said earlier, it is only worth what someone will pay for it.
