A wire going from the ignition switch to the firewall gets almost to hot to touch. well this truck is running,Truck starts and runs fine
This is a 73 bronco
Any help would be great
Thanks
Sounds like it is the resistance wire that runs from the run terminal of the ignition switch to the BAT terminal of the coil to limit current through the primary windings. It can get warm to the touch but is not one of Ford's better ideas.
I second dodmort, I have had a 68, 69, 72 and 74 Bronco all had the wire running warm to the touch under the dash. The tool box has always had spare ignition parts, wire, ballast resister and sometimes coil even the electronic kits I have had can let you down. There’s been more than one time we have had to hot wire a rig to get back to town. If fact one time at work using a 5 ton truck to relocate equipment, it died on the freeway (Dodge and a burnt ballast resistor) the guy I was working with just freaked out. Well I always try to take my small tool jump bag anytime I use a rig other than mine, out come three feet of wire, ballast resistor and we were on the road to NAPA. Tools, parts and FTE really help in life.
49" long / color coded red with/without green stripes / 1.30 to 1.40 ohms resistance / #16 gauge wire.

the only time i have ever had any vehicle leave me was a 84 bronco with 200 grand on an all orginal set up...had all the right extras with me...except a coil...guess what it was....and the replacement went out 6 months later...the extra parts are not expensive..so my obd 1 and less stuff has it.. the obd2 and newer gets towing insurance and my wife drives that stuff....anywho......
