ok this is a rookie question, but i bought a set of tweeters (40rms/60max). do i need an inline crossover even if it says built in crossover? i hooked them up to my cousins truck and they didnt sound that great. if i dont need a inline crossover, would bass blockers help? thanx

What brand are they? Where did you have them mounted? Were you runnin them off the head unit or an amp? You shouldnt need a crossover if they already have one built in! A bass blocker is a type of inline crossover but you could always try and see if it helps.
there radioshack brand (gag) yes there probaly junk but im just experimenting with the idea. and yes i had it running off his headunit, we just removed the speaker wire going to his 6x9"s to see how it would sound. any other help?!?!?! im seriously thinking about returning them...but if i do keep them ill maount them on the power window/lock switches. thanx

I had a cheap set in my old truck but they were loud so it might not be the tweeters! Alot of it depends on placement and the way you have the headunit settings! Keep playing with them and if you still dont get the results you want then I would return them! But its up to you.
One thing to keep in mind, tweeters don't really sound very good by themselves...They really do augment the other parts of the spectrum...
If you run them with the 6x9's you will likely be more pleased....
I would not however, run them in parallel with the 6x9's off of that head unit, unless that head unit can take that low of a load (which I doubt)...
If its a 4 channel head unit, run 6x9's off two channels and tweet off of the other two....That would also allow you to use the fader control to give you some control over how much they add to your system....
I know all all about being on a budget (my first "real" speakers were Sparkomatic 6x9's ), but you do get what you pay for...
Radio Shack speakers are generally for lower duty, general applications..and dont usually perform all that well...
thanx for the help, but i dont think u get my question. i was just asking, do i need any type of crossover to go with the tweeters even though it said built in. and my cousins truck was just to see if they worked and to see if they were worth the money. i was going to run them off the headunit and place them on my door lock/window controls. and i was going to run the other speakers off a 4 channel amp. but could i run the front speakers and tweeters on the same channel? i dont think i can, but who knows.

Ok fair enough...:-) I guess I was thinking too far ahead :-)
If they say they have built in crossovers, then you should not need anything...Most of the time when I used to buy RS drivers, they just had a capacitor in there that you put in line on the hot side...
In any case, you could possibly run them off the amp, but what you are trying would make things simplier...it would depend on the speaker impedence and the amp's load capability..
i returned those Radioshack tweeters, because i found a used set of JBL tweeters out of a car at work (recentaly totaled). they have a built in crossover like u said that u plug into the hot wire. these sound much better than those cheapo radioshack ones. i plan to run these off the HU, not going to mess with wiring them in a series (could be parallel, i dont understand them to good yet).
well i went to install them and to my surprise, where i wanted to mount them didnt work out so well so i sold them. i did hook up my front speakers to my amp and it makes up for the difference. and about that series/paralelle ill make another post so u cant explain it to my so we dont over do this one. thanx
