Got my Kicker KS65.2 component speakers today and pulled the door panels off and was wondering where everyone mounted their crossovers and tweeters at?
I am deleting the rear speakers so I was thinking about mounting the tweeters above where the rear speakers would be and putting the crossovers in the rear speaker holes. Then running the speaker wire and input wiring all the way back to the stock location.
That's a lot of extra wiring to mount the crossovers that far away from the speakers. I don't have separates in my truck, but I do in my car. I mounted the crossovers to the door (drilled two holes for each side) in the space behind the arm rest.
ok ill see if I can get my crossovers to attach somewhere inside the door. What size tweeters do you have? Mine are 1" and I think they might be to deep to put in the pillar( I want flush mount)
ok got my crossovers mounted and guess ill try mounting the tweeters on the pillar. Ran into another problem.. The speakers dont fit in the speaker hole. They are 6.5" and my old ones were 6.5" and fit fine.... Guess ill have to break out the grinder..
i mounted my tweeters about an inch from my speaker in the door still still behind the grill and my crossovers are behind my kick panel its a clean install for the best sound dyno matt ur door and behind the speaker mine sounded alot better after i did it
Here's how mine turned out. 1995 F-150.
I fabricated a custom panel for the crossover to fit in door. I have extra pictures of this if anyone needs help.
drilled 1" hole below subwoofer so that it is behind speaker grill. very easy to do with 1" hole drill bit.
Installed sound deadner behind speaker.
definitely no amp needed...sounds very good as is and I'm way to old for that type of noise. :-)
What noise? Just better sound quality. I thought mine sounded good off the headunit and then I hooked them to an amp and was shocked at how much more clear they sounded.
I came really close to buying an amp... so close I ordered the 4 gauge wiring kit. I still might get one, just not sure where it would fit. I've already got over $400 dollars tied up in head unit and component speakers... adding an amp will be another $276, then I would probably need to add a sub-woofer... $$$$$
What size amp do you guys suggest? I have speakers in the doors and speakers in the back panels (extended cab), so I guess I will need a 4 channel amp. I realize the techy recommendtion is "Bigger is Better and as big as your speaker RMS" so that would be 125watts RMS in my case...do I really need something that big?? I'm on a tight budget. My head unit pushes 50 watts x 4.
Ok, I ordered me a Kenwood KAC-8405 600W amp today... should be here in a few days.
It should carry 60 to 75 watts per channel.
I'll let everyone know how it sounds when I get it installed.
waiting for this bc i want to do same... can ya make a video? b4 amp, after amp same song?.. im looking at getting a single 8" sub in box.. has built in amp. componets for doors.
I hope you guys plan to add a dynamat type material in your doors before closing it all up. I plan on mounting my HAT crossovers in the glove box on the bias. My best friend/ installer has his installed in his '72 C10 and it looks sick. Retaining some usable space for sunglasses, insurance card, etc.
