Problem: When I am coming to a stop I hear a noise like a clapping/clunking noise from somewhere up front. Not sure if it's from the engine/front axle/might even be from the transfer case area, not sure, but its coming from that general area. It doesn't sound like it is doing it all the time, I can only really hear it when i am coming to a stop and it starts making it just before I come to a complete stop. Doesn't matter if I am in gear or if I let coast, doesn't matter if I am turning or not the sound appears during all cases.
Any thoughts on where I should start looking? Doesn't seem to affect the truck driving as it runs fine and will drive at highway speeds without a problem.
Look at your radius arm bushings, where they attach to the frame right under your feet when you're sitting in the seat. Do a search, there's about a million threads with suggestions on R&R. I went with polyurethane, tho not necessary.
I had that happen to me on a 77 f100, turned out that my radiator support wall was rusted to the point that when I went to stop the radiator support let the radiator sway back toward the engine, and the fan was hitting the radiator shroud. Maybe this isn't your problem, but it's worth checking.

Ok, I just did a search and also looked at a few parts list for my truck and I can't find a listing for the radius arm bushings and every thread I looked at talks about coils, but I have leaf springs in the front not coils.
I also noticed on the way home that when I let off the gas while traveling between 55-60 the truck has a vibration that shakes the whole truck for a second or two and then the vibration goes away.
Ah, leaf spring front. Well, when I run into the mystery noises and such like that, I get it up on jack stands and start "wiggling" things around. Have found bad king pin bushings, u-joints, ball joints, etc like that. The latest one was a loose steering box.
Yea, I would check that rear driveshaft. And if it's divorced t-case, check the shaft between the tranny and t-case too. Actually, check all of them, especially the slip joints for wobble. Like previous poster suggested, make sure the lockouts (if part-time) are disengaged (even if they are in the free position, they might still be locked or partially). Check the torque on your front axle u-bolts. Wiggle the shocks to make sure they might not be rattling, etc. Chasing down noises like these can be a challenge.
i would check the axle u joints also i recently had my 76 3/4 ton blow out a cap on a axle u joint found out when i was checking the fluid in the front diff i decided to shake them to see if that was the noise that i had and sure enough that was it mine also had a clunking noise when i would drive it
