Super Camper Specials were 2wd regular cab F-350 camper specials, made from 1973 to 1976. They had a 140" wheelbase and the spare tire was stored in a compartment in front of the right rear wheel, just like ALL 2wd regular cab F-350s of those years, as well as 34" wide frames front to back, just like a chassis cab. Most people think the wheelbase, frame width, and spare tire arrangement is unique to the SCS's. As I've proven multiple times on this site, that is not the case. Starting in 1977, Ford dropped the "Super" designation. Another interesting option was extra-wide 12.00 x 16.5 rear tires. GVWRs were also impressive. My 79 with the 12.00s has a 9900lb GVWR.
Super Camper Specials ARE the worlds rarest 1973-1979 Ford F-Series,They have a wheelbase of 140" and came with a 360,390,460.They came in Auto or Manual I own one,a 76 Manual 390 they made 2300 FROM 73-79! Hope this Helps.

A correction to the post before yours. SCSs were NOT available after 76. While the truck remained basically the same, Ford dropped the "Super" designation for the 2wd regular cab F-350 camper specials in 77. They remained just "camper specials" through the 79 model year. Starting in 80, Ford dropped the 140" wheelbase.

I didn't want you to pass up a 77-79 just because it didn't say "Super".

So where did you get this tidbit of info? 2300 TOTAL Super Camper Specials made? How many for each year?
The biggest drawback to the SCS is that it wasn't available in super-cab or crew-cab. So if cab space is important you can just get a Super-cab camper-special.
But it wouldn't be as cool
The best thing with the SCS (or 2wd lwb f350) is that by moving the axle back, when you are hauling a camper the load is more evenly distributed. ie, more weight on the front axle is a GOOD thing. better braking, better handling blah blah
