Egt kinda high 1150 empty

I did a little searching and found that 1250-1300 is about the highest you want to go with your egt. I have 89 f250 with a 6.9l 4.10s and a t19 4speed and 31s. My egt seem to me to be running a little hot its towing my fj40 on its trailer just driving down the freeway it runs about 800 and if i get a hill it will climb to 1200-1250 pretty quickly never goes over but does get there fast. And to night i was pushing it up a windy road and managed to get it up to 1150 but i was empty no trailer no load in the bed just the fuel in the tanks and me in the cab. The PO put the 6.9 in and looks like he had the exaust redone because looks new and after the manifold down pipes connect it steps up from 2 1/2 to 3 all the way back. Just wondering if these are normal reading and if there not what can i do to lower them (maybe pull the muffler)? This is a non-turbo motor and the egt probe is in the drivers down pipe about 6-8in from the manifold looks like he had them exaust shop weld in a bung for him while they were down there. One more thing just incase it matter as far as i know the fuel has never been turned up and no matter how hard i get on it, it will not blow black smoke (not that i want it to just if im right too much fuel will raise the egt). Sorry its long but thanks for reading.

Mine is N/A as well, with the EGT right at the outlet of #6 cylinder, fuel is turned up and I do get black smoke when really on it with a load. Most I've seen on mine is about 1175.
I would think about replacing your Pyro probe, meter,, or both. I don't really know of a good way to trouble shoot the pyro system or check its accuracy, but it sounds to me like yours is a little out of calibration.

There is a tool that checks both but they are pricey. If you are near a truck dealership, they will have one. I don't know what they would charge you to check it.

Most likely not a problem with your pyro. Is your pump turned up? do you get any smoke while driving? whats your egt at idle?

Actually those numbers are not out of line.

But I would try to keep the temp down to 1150.
The pistons start melting at 1250.

Yes there are piston cooling jets, but all that does is add a huge amount of heat to the oil.
