Mine are installed boot up, no probs after 2 years.....I don't think Bilstein really specifies either way. Not sure about that one......but mine work like they are brand new
Correct, on a nitrogen charged monotube shock their orientation does not effect their operation.
It's more for longevity of the shock then anything else. If it's boot up, any water, dirt, grime, etc that gets past the boot can collect and sit around the shaft seal and possibly cause a premature failure over time. If the boot is mounted down, you no longer have that "shelf" for everything to collect on. Most people would probably never have an issue.
I believe Bilstein's answer is that they are to be mounted so that the decal is right side up.
Of course with some of the vehicles that have a stem on one side and a eye on the other, you really don't have a choice (like 05-08 SDs).
I just installed mine and the front were boot down the rear was boot up. If I had put the rear boot down Bielstein would have been up side down. I figured that this was the way the co. wanted them installed.
I gotmine yesterday at 4:45 pm by UPS and finished the install cleaned upand did a test drive at 6:15 pm. They were asnap to installthe ride was not bad at all, I could tell the differance in the ride.
