I've got a 2001 F350 LB CC DRW V10 and I'm thinking of replacing the shocks. I've been reading the forums and see that Bilstein, Rancho and Edelbrock seem to be peoples choice. Since I tow horses, 1 to 3, the Rancho RS9000x adjustables appeal to me - at least for the rear. Maybe Rancho RSX in the front? I surfed the web for Rancho and the lowest cost is from an outfit called My4By. Their price is about $67 for the 9000x and about $48 for the RSX. Anybody have any experience with these guys. Their pricing is so much lower than I've seen anywhere that it worries me. Thanks in advance.

PM me, I have a set of 4 9000x's that I just took off when I put my lift on. They have about 10k on them and they work great.

I have the Rancho 9000x's, and so far have been quite happy. Lots of rough driving, but only 15K miles on them so far. Great on the road (I like them turned up to 6 or higher in front, 7 in back). Great for going over big bumps... Some offroad I've done, they've been great.

Get a steering stabilizer too. With only one Rancho steering stabilizer, and 265/75r16's, I can see needing a dual with bigger tires.

The only thing I didn't like was this last year, they must have used real sodium chloride on the roads, (real salt, not potassium chloride or calcium chloride). The paint on the shocks is now "rust colored". The two years before that, they were fine. This year we had lots of black ice over the winter, and they really spread salt all over the place.

the rs9000x have made me NEARLY hate my truck.

i just ordered some bilstiens.........lets hope i am happy afterward.

the rsx, it's crap.
may as well go with a pep boys shock!

hardly any of the shocks out there were made for a leaf sprung vehicle, at least the new stuff that is......they have compression, and rebuond damping set up for coils.........not compatible imho.
get something MADE for a leaf sprung vehicle.

fwiw, i paid 80 bux each for the bilstiens from summit. they should be here tomorrow...........

good luck!

Why do you hate the Rancho's?

As for them not being setup for leaf-sprung vehicles, I find that hard to believe, I've used Ranchos in my '74 highboy for 15 years, and my '01 now for 2 years, and I don't see what the problem is. please explain

WELL, the rebound damping is nearly non existant. when you back up through a dip, the front of the truck will bounce 3-4 times..........this is on max, or the lowest setting. the compression damping is ALL that the ranchos are capable of "adjusting".

all they are able to do, is make "impact harshness" worse, as even the LOWEST setting is too stiff for a leaf sprung vehicle.

fwiw, i have also owned a 78 low boy, and had 5000's, and rsx's on it, with both stock, and a trail******* 4"..... and they are crap too.

I am glad ya like em, and this was not meant as a flame...........when i first put the lift on and these shocks (actually, rsx's first, cuz they were 99 bux for all four at 4wheelsparts when i did the lift) i actually liked em. (again, COMPARED to the rsx with the lift, which are utter garbage).
after nearly 40k on the setup, and a prego wife, i have learned to leave the truck in the driveway, and take the stang more and more.

if you saw the death wobble thread i posted, this is partly to blame, but even flat smooth road is not comfortable anymore. i long for the stock 2 leaf ride with the crap stock shocks.......

Something is seriously wrong if you have no rebound dampening...

My Rancho's keep the front of the truck from bouncing, hit a dip in the road, it comes up and stays there, it doesn't bounce. Even on a setting of "4", they don't rebound.

Weird...
