Thanks, but I never claimed I was not nuts. I need to shoot them an email and find out what's up with their F series alternators only going to the 01 model year.

Thanks for the link and base reference Gene. I meant to check it today as soon as I got home, but my wife distracted me with the fact she lost one of the lawnmower wheels while mowing. When I say lost, I mean we had to go walk through the field looking for the wheel.

Don't ask. I can't explain it either.

Keep in mind that my 205F temp was after towing about 4 hrs with the headlights on during a hot day.

Mine went out this week as well. Let work and the battery light was on so I went and threw one on from Auto Zone. This is my daily driver so I can't wait to have one delivered. The old one was a Ford part, not sure if it was the original but I have 280K miles on the truck.

As with anything electrical, heat is the big killer. The alternator only puts out what current is being required at any moment, so unless you run a lot of power items, probably not putting out anywhere near 110 amps. The big consideration is a higher rated alternator would have larger wire windings and heavier insulation. The remanned units at the parts stores may have been 135A units that were rebuilt and derated due to the rebuild. If you run short trips, you will work the unit harder to recharge from starting which causes more heat in the unit. I run 40 miles each way to work and the truck was previously a RV delivery running long trips so it may have been the original. If you make short trips or run alot of power accessories then you probably want to find a higher output setup.
