PCV valve question

I changed spark plugs, fuel filter, and my PCV valve last week. Also recharged my K&N filter. When I was changing the PCV valve, I wasn't positive at first that O'Reilly's gave me the right PCV valve because the part in the package looked very much like your traditional part from 30 years ago for my Mustang way back then. The strange part of it is what I was looking at under my hood.

The valve had a hose running into the top of it as expected but, there seemed to be two other hoses connected to it that came in from the side of the valve. I pulled the valve out of the valve cover and all three hoses came with it. I pulled the hose off of the top of the old valve and this left the other two hoses. There was a clip holding a piece of steel tubing wrapped around the PVC valve that these other hoses were connected to. These hoses if I remember correctly went up to the side of the throttle body. Before I removed the retaining clip for the metal tube, I took one of the hoses off and a liquid spewed out (fuel I believe). I quickly put it back on.
  1. What is the purpose of the tube wrapped around the PCV valve?
  2. Should there be fuel in this tube?
  3. Does fuel in this tube indicate a problem?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Im not sure if im talking about the same rubber hoses as you are, but in the same general area that the PCV valve is at, there are small rubber hoses that coolant runs through.

OK, then what purpose does this serve to have small fuel line sized coolant line wrapped around the PVC valve?

Idk..? Mine doesnt have the coolant lines wrapped around the PCV valve, instead the coolant lines go to the throttle body, where one of the PCV hoses goes enters.
Could it be to "cool" the pressurized air coming out of the motor? I would assume that the air coming out of the motor would be quite hot....?

That's used to run HOT water through the throttlebody on cold days to try to get the vehicle to go into CLOSED LOOP quicker to keep the EPA happy. The hot water warms up the throttlebody which is supposed to warm up the air as it the intake manifold. It's just feel good stuff like the EGR system which causes so many problems on Fords. It doesn't make YOU feel good. It's there to make the EPA feel good or at least helps them to justify their own existence in their own minds. Isn't that special?

I took some pictures of it.

The PCV valve with the right angle booted line connecting to the top. The coolant line is held in place by the black clip. The coolant line is under it and is lighter in color.

The coolant lines connecting to the intake.

Thats wierd.. mine doesnt have the one that goes around the PCV valve. But it does have the coolant lines going to the throttle body.
Maybe the earlier 97-03 f-150s didnt come with the one that goes around the PCV valve.

It's probably to keep the EGR gasses from melting the plastic manifold. Not sure why it would be routed around the PCV valve.
