I've had trouble with Sony and won't touch anything of thiers anymore. As far as audio equipment I've known one guy with a unit that stayed good, the rest have all turned into crap. It may just be where they are made also, I've noticed that TI calculators that were made in China don't work half the time while the ones from Maylasia work great.

sony car audio products are close to the bottom of the barrel. there are MANY more better, cheaper, and far better sounding audio out there. basically its a beginer brand and i feel sorry for people who have bought there prodcuts, they flat out suck, dont put out the watts they advertise and are overpriced. id like to add, for a really good, USA built subs/amps/speakers try digital designs and Resonant engineering.
