Ok so here is my question. I got my first oil change on my 08 f350 6.4 at 2300 miles and 6 months of age. Now my truck is approaching its 1 year birthday and only 3500 miles. Most of the time the truck sits, but now that summer is here, it will be used a little more towing our fifth wheel camper. Would you guys wait longer on oil changes or would you follow the six moth intervals? If I waited for the 5k mile or even the 10k mile interval it would take years......
I would do the oil change at least every 8 months but that is just me. Especially after the winter months if you live up north. I believe oil will start to hold moisture if not regularly run hot (someone correct me if I am wrong).
Thats what I plan on doing, every 6 months. I was just curious to know what others would do. i will have more oil changes with less miles. $120 a pop is rough on the wallet though. Oh well big toys cost big money.....
I just checked my DVD that came with my 08 F250 6.4 and it stated that you should change the oil every 10K or 1yr unless operating under extreme conditions. I change mine every 5K. We do not have typical winter conditions here in FLA, and the truck is not worked so I am just concerned with warranty compliance.
My Power stoke manual states normal operation 10,000 miles or 6 months. Short trip in cold operating conditions, or towing a trailer 5,000 miles or 6 months. I too changed my oil at 5,000 miles in October after towing 2,000 miles this past summer. I have only driven 1,000 miles since then.I was going to wait to change after towing about 2500miles this 1st 3 weeks of July. But the manual says 6 months, bummer looks like I have to get it done. I'll call my dealer and see what they say.

Called my dealer, yes it has to be done, scheduled next Monday for $79.00. Thanks for bringing this thread up. I would not have changed it until 10,000 miles and my warranty could have been voided. Better safe than sorry for $79. That is what is so great about this Web site. Thanks to all that have helped me since I have been a member
I changed mine at 10,000 miles but didnt change my fuel filters the books says change at 15,000 miles. I was on a trip pulling a 35' trailer the cruise control kicked the RPMS up to climb a hill and the truck started to shuter is this because of the old fuel filters
We do heavy towing so change at 5K miles and we let the dealership do it so as to avoid any warranty issues. Cost is @ 85.00 with tax. I would suggest that it be done by the book at least during the warranty period.

We will be towing by you in just 3 more weeks. Can't wait. Hopefully dropping in Cedar Point at about noon.
I was reading my 6.4l supplement yesterday and also found that the fuel filters should be changed every 24 months. So looks like when it goes in at the end of the month it will be for oil change, fuel filters, and warranty recall on fuel tank. At least the recall is free......just turned 3,600 miles
I also agree that you should follow the manual, at least while under warranty. I like to run synthetic but to protect myself on warranty issues I take the oil and filter to a local shop, slip them a $20 to do the labor and give me a documented receipt for my records.
If you are not worried about following the manual then I would ask yourself a few questions to determine your interval. Do you tow? When you do drive it, does it get good and warm? If you take short trips you will produce condensation but if you drive an hour or so it will get hot enough to burn off any residue. Are you running dino or synthetic oil? All of this plays a factor on the life of your oil.
Bottom line if you value your warranty follow the manual. If you can't afford two oil changes per year then you bought the wrong truck. Even the gassers go by mileage and / or 6 month intervals.
