F.Filter & Oil Change Intervals ??...Not as easy as u think
Ok heres the deal I bought my truck Sept 2011 & the dealer said they changed the Oil, but i changed the Oil again a month or so later (cause i didnt know what they used) & i changed the Fuel Filters at that time also (motorcraft filters & rotella T6 oil).
Then in the middle of May i changed the Oil again before we went on our big vacation (odometer read 113k) & here lies the problem.
The odometer now is coming up on 117k & iam wondering if iam risking anything having those Fuel Filters in for over a year now
By the standard 5k Oil & 10k F.Filter change intervals iam doing good & in another 1k miles i will change the Oil & F.Filters again (probably not for 3 months or so at the rate we drive it though).
What do u guys think about the TIME rather than the Mileage the Oil & Fuel Filters are installed for...Iam i worried about nothing

In my opinion the fuel filters are good to go based on the mileage. They only filter when the fuel is moving thru them. On another note the oil and oil filter I'd do at the recommended mileage, 5,000, or time, 6 months, whichever comes first. My reasoning on this is that the combustion process forms acids, condensation and other nasty things in the oil which you don't want in there for extended periods of time. The mileage/ time interval is also recommended by Ford.

If you do a lot of idling then the filters should be changed sooner.
But if the truck is sitting you could let it go by miles if you are doing the
oil at least 6 Mo is what Ford says.
You might think about doing one of the 6 Mo changes before you start you summer
driving and one at the end. That way you start out with fresh oil at peek summer and
then store for the winter with fresh oil. If it's going to sit fresh oil is much better.

Sean, I didn't see any mention directed at not changing the filter? However, yes to my knowledge there is app. three qts. of oil not changed that is left behind in the engine. That is with a filter change.

I will be changing my Fuel Filter's @ 10k mile's or once a year
As far as Oil changes go iam still working on a schedule, i just dont buy into the 6 month schedule considering the quality of today's Oil, so i sent a sample into Blackstone Labs (see attached report) which was 7 months old & had 3,065 miles on it....
As u can see the TBN which measures the additives in Oil were still very high & the Lab said to run it to 5k miles this time (no matter time), then test it again.
Low Mileage Oil Changes have come up numerous times & everyone has an opinion so i decided to get a "scientific" opinion
That "lead" reading did get my attention though (watching that closely)

The biggest issue with low mile oil changes is the condensation that
collects in the engine along with acid formation form the combustion
byproducts and the condensation combine to make a low Ph water sitting
in places in the engine and eating the metals. If you park in a heated
place your going to have less problems. The other way to reduce condensation
from collection is to run the engine to get it up to or above 180F and hold
it there for an hour or more to drive the condensation out.

I have plenty of experience with Amsoil(most of their products in general), as that's all my trucks ever had. I have 105k miles on her now. I've run both the 15w-40 & the 5w-40 oil in my truck. I've sent samples out after 5k miles on both oil weights and had nothing striking to report. I've been told numerous times by other dealers to let the oil go longer before changing, 10k miles....
I just can't. My advice is if you're buying it to extend your oil change intervals, don't. Amsoil makes good stuff IMO, as far as it being better than the rest, I don't see how.
