Does anyone have a close up picture of a vin tag on a F-3? I want to get mine refinished and need to know just what one looks like. Mine only had the numbers left on it. If possible I would like a close up of the firewall and glove box tags. Thanks, Larry.
The firewall "patent data plate" looks like this pic (should be embossed not engraved):
After Sept 51 the glove box "rating plate" looked like this:
Good luck,
J!
PS...The rating plate in the last pic was made for my truck as it is now....disregard the values - they're not typical. One of those "Dark Side" things?
Oh Yeah!!!...Is that 595 HP @ 6000 RPM?? I would qualify that as a darkside touch!
But not enough to get you in trouble, the average person wouldn't notice, the all original crowd might shake their heads, just makes us darksiders grin...nice touch!
595 hp?!! Holy Cow, get me a booklet of "get out of jail free" cards for Christmas!
Nope its "only" 395 hp! 3HDAO under transmission is 3spd heavy duty automatic overdrive (C-6 with Gear Vendors OD )
2.80 (really 2.79 but they call it 2.80) 9 3/8 Ford Rear
And the production code is my birhtday (my way to tie the truck to me..... okay - girl vanity) tee hee!
J!
PS An interesting note: Unless you guys are holding out on me, I've found the newer style rating plates pretty hard to find blank (the older style and the patent data plate they sell at C&G for about $10 ea). But if you have a blank (like the one I bought from the Famous Chuck at Chucks trucks) I know a guy who will make you a pair of new ones all embossed for $60!!!!!!!
Today I also found another treasure I thought was close to impossible. I found a local locksmith who will rekey your door locks to your glove box lock key (or even if you want to go single key all three of those to the ignition switch key....$20...no kidding) I dropped mine off today and I'll open a new threat tomorrow if it works out ok, with the info!!!!!!
I used to move pretty darn good! Almost scary at times especially passing 3000 rpm. But when the MPG is only 9 and the $/g is $4.65 for 91 O, the F1s 395 hps sound is ZZZZZs not Zooms!
Julies~ Nice tags you hade made up, who did them for you? I did the same thing for the glove box option tag listing all the modern up grades. It is nice to see a lady that does not mind giving out her age (production code)!
With the exception of vision and an occasional bout of selective defness, I'm in pretty good shape for an old broad of 52! Good Genes (and good Jeans!) tee hee.
I have searches high and low for certain things to satisfy my German Virgo Right side brain! My Patent Data Plate I got at C&G Ford Parts.
I had a horrible time finding any one with AN EMBOSSING MACHINE to letter the blank rating plate I had. I found a guy with one but he said it's easier to make a new plate first, emboss it, then cut it to size. So, I said "go fo it.
He made me two glove box rating plates that are PERFECT.
