Sub Box in Bronco?

If your looking for good sound, go with the biggest box that you can possibly fit. Brace it really good and use good thick MDF (3/4 at least). I would build separate enclosures inside one box, no need for drivers to interfere with each other, plus its stronger that way. Put in a couple 4 inch PVC pipe ports as long as you can make them and trim for the best sound as you go. Remember, the more air the pipes can hold, the lower the resonant freq will be, usually what you want for good sound (not for an spl competition though).

It doesnt matter if the ports are in the box or sticking out, as long as they are there. You don't need any software, tune it by ear by trimming the ports as you go. I usually have several different lengths on hand. And by all means, do it yourself. Its not hard, and it will be much better than 90% of the guys that do it for a living. To them, it just a job, to you its more than that. Don't stuff it with anything, I never had luck with that (went thru lots of pillows before I realised that).

If you want to be louder than the next guy and you don't care how absolutely horrid it may sound, then make the box smaller and put in shorter ports and learn to say, "what?" in 5 different languages.

Oh, try to put the ports on the same side as the speakers. Especially so if your crossover is higher than 80hz or so.

Sub Box in Bronco?

I build a box for 3 10'' Kicker Comp VRs in my 90 Bronco FS powered by a Soundstream ref 700s. I am trying to sell it now because it was way too loud. Bronco's can be very expensive to put good sound systems in for a few reasons, The tops are made of Fiberglass which does not resonate worth a #####, lots and lots of metal and plastic which is no good for the same reason as the fiberglass top. If I were you depending on what type of 15'' drivers you have go with a sealed box.

Sub Box in Bronco?

I don't see what would be wrong with a properly tuned ported box???
You may have made the box too small for those 10's or tuned it too high and had too much gain out of it in the wrong spot. I can agree about the size of the vehicle though. Those big long panels flex alot.

For 15's, I would just make the box as big as will fit and stick a couple 4 inch pipes for each sub. Tune by ear with a setup cd. In any case, if you don't like the ports, just seal em up.

Big boxes w/long ports = nice, low bass w/o alot of gain, flat response.

small boxes w/short ports = boomy sounding w/ alot of gain, loss of low bass.

Anytime you can angle subs to a wall or window, go for it! The extra loading will bring more lows out. Put the ports on the same side as the sub. Thats why those hatchbacks are so loud with 3 w6's back there firing straight up and the port at the farthest back point. Try to keep the angle less than 45 degrees, otherwise you won't get much loading.

http://www.iasca.com/ used to sell them, but I went to the site and didn't see any links. You might send an email. But, my favorite setup-cd is the Sheffield A2TB Test Disc called "My Disc" from http://www.sheffieldlab.com/catalog.html#test
I highly recommend this setup cd or any recordings from Sheffield.
