Let me start by saying my setup is an '08 Ford F-350 Super Duty with integrated brake controller, towing an '09 Cedar Creek Day Dreamer with electric over hydraulic disc brakes.
The brakes do work! The problem is that 99% of the time when I use the brakes, either with the foot pedal or hand switch on the controller and subsequently release them, I get an annoying beep and "Trailer Disconnected" in my message center. The trailer image on my controller flashes red momentarily also. It doesn't take but an instant for this to clear up and everything goes back to normal, not to happen again until I use the brakes the next time. As I said, the brakes do work properly other than this obnoxious reoccurence.
Let me also state that I pull a flatbed gooseneck with electric brakes with this truck as well. It does not give any problems whatsoever. I've had the plug on my truck checked by an independent (neither Ford nor the RV dealer). That test showed the truck and brake contoller to be working properly.
Anybody else have this annoying problem with an integrated Ford system and electric over hydraulic brakes or know what the fix is? Thanks!
Yes I had the exact same problem and it is not the truck it is in the trailer. One of my brake wires was grounding out on the trailer. Check all your brake wires on the trailer.
Electric over Hydraulic. Almost the same situation my 40' toyhauler had the problem however when I towed any other trailer it was fine. Check your trailer I am 99% sure that is where the problem is!!!!
Ford's integrated brake controller is not designed to work properly with Electric over hydraulic brakes. I do however remember reading that dexter elec ov hyd master cylinder will work with the controller.
If so it was in the truck, but caused by issues with a thermal protector in the RV.
My 30 Amp superfuse on my trailer charge relay was blown. I replaced it and backed the truck close enough to the RV to plug the trailer cable in. After repeated manipulations of the foot pedal and hand switch on the controller, I got no more beeps nor error messages.
I'll reserve final judgment until I tow again however.
BTW, my RV dealer says Ford's controller should work fine with this brake setup. He says Chevrolet has just come out with an integrated brake controller that has to be rewired to work right. Go figure! Chevy's got a good pattern to copy . . . and still mess it up!
I had the same problem with my boat trailer. Electric over hydraulic. It was a Titan brand with disc brakes. I had to install a magnet and solved the problem.
I have this problem with my truck also. We picked up a new 5th wheel and not 10 miles from the dealer our message center chimed up and we got the disconnect message. We were told it wasn't the truck and had to be the trailer. We got the chime and message every so often for the next 1000 miles. It didn't matter if I steped on the brake or not it would just go off. I did find a wire that wasn't right on the back side of the wheel, it looked like it had been pulled out with the bushing. I pushed it back in and have not had the problem. On the other hand I haven't pulled the trailer more than 10 mile since we got home.
